Fender Hot Rod Deville 410 at pawn shop

so i found a hot rod deville 410 for $300 at a pawn shop. seems too good to be true so I try it out and (surprise! surprise!) it doesn't work. the light turns on but gives no sound when i hook up a guitar and switch from standby to on. i could probably haggle the price down to $100 or even less, but is it worth trying to fix it? all the tubes seemed to be there but i forgot to see if they light up when turned on. any other diagnostic tests i could run to check the condition of this amp? any help would be welcome.

I would open up the amp and check the power supply and most of the soldering. When my deville 410 had issues it wasn't the tubes but the power supply and soldering that ended up being bad. It cost me $110 for the power supply and various parts to be replaced and resoldered.

haggle to 200 bucks, and then get it fixed, pimp it out if you want, as long as its under 400, you got one hell of a deal.

alright, i'll see if the guy will let me open it up. i think i can haggle it down pretty low because the clerk thought it still worked and take it to a shop. thanks, i just wanted to make sure it wasn't something unfixable.

As long as the shop can figure out what's wrong, it should be able to be fixed. They're nice amps and if you can get them down in price I recommend getting it.

don't spend more than $100. it shouldn't be a problem to fix. immediately flip it on craigslist or ebay for profit then buy a good amp.

alright, i'll go back tomorrow and take it off their hands for $200 and bring it to a guitar shop. will report on how it goes at a later time.

btw, sloan, what do you consider a good amp? i was thinking of getting a tiny terror combo if i sell this deville.

so i come back to the pawn shop this morning and it's gone. the clerk said some guy picked it up last night even though i told him to hold it for me. so frustrating. it might come back though.

yeah, i've been in edmonton for a couple of years now. where do you go for your guitar gear needs? i like avenue guitars and the acoustic shop if i'm on whyte. what bullshit with avenue guitars and orange amps. "quality problems" with orange amps? must have gotten thrown around during shipping. i think they still have a couple left though.

yeah, it's pretty rare here too but some pawn shops don't check the prices of what they're selling online and so they either overshoot the price people are willing to pay by thousands or set it ridiculously low. you never pay the advertised price in a pawn shop, always haggle it down. oh god i love pawn shops.

Yeah, we don't have much of a pawn shop culture here. We have this thing called Cash Converter which is kind of a pawn shop chain but you can't haggle very much.

depends on what i'm hunting for, i do a lot of pawn shop hopping.
also i like to visit aero on the west end. his prices change depending upon how well he knows you.

strings i get from acoustic music.
picks from mothers
guitars nowhere, avenues prices are shit
i refuse to deal with axe
and long & mac never has anything interesting (although i missed out on the mascis jazzy..)
but ave does currently have a 1965 mustang for $999
i should know i sold it to them for $500 to pay my rent last month.

yeah, i don't know many places here so I just go where my native edmontonian friends take me. i usually buy most of my stuff on ebay or classifieds.
