I hate to say it, but the body and a 65 neck could each sell for this much. TOGETHER they are fugly.
I would fix the neck into a regular six string, and then refin the body. It could also go 12, but since it's been hacked, all bets are off.

I was still trying to buy that 30 seconds after I noticed the listing had ended. Must. Be. Some. Way.

Oops. I just saw the replies.
I bought it. Sorry about that. Normally I only post deals I have no intention of buying. This would happen behind the scenes and you wouldn't hear about it until I painted it. Then it would lie undisturbed in a pile for sometimes years.
Once I posted the listing, I had a WTF moment and hit the BIN. I am going to restore it properly, as god intended. I don't know WHAT to do about pickups. Curtis Novak sells them, but for $100 each. Anyone care to suggest options or colors? I would love to fix the red pick guard, but I also bought a white one. I like the idea of black with red guard. Whatever happens, it gets a matching headstock to hide the decapitation scar. I already tracked down the big flippy switch and the string retainer from Angela. (I know--they suck).

what are you going to do about a bridge tho, they are fricking impossible to find, and when they show up they are like 300 bucks!
altho there was a 23 string strat in the 80s that has the same bridge and i see them sell for around 400-500 bucks.....
you should have asked, i has vintage string retainer i would have bro-dealed you.

I say restore it as a kind of Maverick/XII and put a mustang tremolo in (That was it covers up all the wonky shit that went on down there). I wish you could save the guard since it's so nice(minus the great big holes) but if you want to make it look stock-ish it would have to go. If your not too picky then you could throw some Novak (or Sublimedo) XII pickups back in and a wide range pickup in the middle to get your Sonic Youth on.
Are you planing on turning it back into a 12 string or are you going to plug some of the holes and drill it for 6 strings?

I may be wrong here but I think hurb made his own covers by gluing together robroe covers. You'll need four to do it but it'd be worth it I think. I don't think he used them in the end because the pickups were weak or something like that so he may send you the covers he made.
This is what I mean, glue the two red boxed sections together and discard the middle bit (but use a robroe cover)

Shabba.
I am going for a 12. Mapplez is hard wood, and already it's got 8 of 12 holes. Robert, I didn't know what you had left. I am considering modding a Musicmaster bass bridge. I'll have to see once I get it how bad off it is.
Here's the Krist Novoselic pic I found years ago and could never relocate. I don't know if I am on board with black yet, but I love that guitar.
Check out this headstock REPAIR! I might try matching grain but not painting it over. Scars tell the story.

I feel a bit odd about the painting of the grain on, but it's certainly impressive.DGNR8 wrote:Check out this headstock REPAIR! I might try matching grain but not painting it over. Scars tell the story.

I have always found those 12 strings fascinating. Steve Mason of Jars of Clay had one and played it on their live Concert DVD. Such a unique design, but 12 strings rarely do well on a large scale.

Song starts on 1:23 and there are some good shots of it about 2:30 and 3:16. Sounds great in the intro of the song.
Cheers

I generally would agree with that statement, though I wouldn't consider Jars of Clay a "crossover" band. They have had some good albums and some I didn't care for as much. Jars is a good band, but they change styles too much for me. If you're going to talk crossover success, I think a band like Switchfoot might be a better example. I think lots of people in the music business are suffering from a lack of creativity, including the Christian music genre.aen wrote:Neither does christian crossover rock.taylornutt wrote: but 12 strings rarely do well on a large scale.

Mewithoutyou is the only "christian crossover" band I think is really viable. Though they're not so much a crossover band as a hardcore band that happens to be christian. I love'm regardless though.
