it's great in many ways, but with leaving bands and so on I can't justify keeping mine... Demo goes through all the shiz-niz though.. and a few weird noises

robrtnickerson wrote:is the micro pog anywhere near as good as the pog? I don't particularly care to be able to get tons of different sounds, just a few really good ones. I'm using a boss octave now (oc-2) and I like it for the most part but am always looking for cooler shit.
It's my understanding that the polyphony algorithm in the Micro POG is of a later revision and tracks a little better than the POG. The POG2 also apparently has the same updated algorithm. I wish I could find a source for my blathering, but I don't recall where I read it. (It may have been in EHX marketing materials.) The Micro POG is a pretty straightforward device and only offers a blend of original signal, +1 octave, and -1 octave; the POG offers those, +2/-2 octaves, some low-pass filter options, as well as detune for the upper octaves for a bit of chorusy-type thickening. For what it's worth, I was able to get some great organ sounds with the Micro POG by kicking on my Small Clone.

I bought the Micro POG earlier this year right before the POG2 was announced; it was around $200 after tax and some hagglin'. I used it for about a month and decided I'd rather spend the extra money and upgrade to the POG2, so I returned it. I didn't have the funds immediately available for the POG2, so I just sat on my hands for a while until I saw ProGuitarShop had a $50 special on the POG2 for a week back in August, bringing it to $274. This seemed like a no-brainer to me.

Since then, like ekwatts, the thing has become pretty damned integral to my guitar sound. Of course I was really annoying at practice with it for the first week, but after I sat down and made some presets, it was a lot more manageable. I do have a few over-the-top presets -- my favorite being a dark, boomy Rhodes sound -- but it's a welcomed sound, as we in the band all love the Rhodes. I pretty much run with it on all the time, but my "default" mode is a preset with a very subtle +2 octave blended in and darkened a bit with the LPF. The attack delay feature is also pretty rad and saved me from having to get a volume pedal to do swells.

And as ekwatts said, it's really worth it to save up for the POG2. If you're not sold yet, definitely go out and demo it. My only beef with it is that it's pretty hard to tell which preset you're on when it's dark. You can see the LEDs just fine, but if I'm on a preset and I want to switch to another, I have to remember which one I'm on in the sequence of eight so I can stomp the correct number to get to the next. I suspect this will become less of a problem over time once I settle on a set of reasonable presets.

I'll get around to doing a proper review Real Soon Now.

Yep, want one of those. Pog 2 is going to have to be bought in the new year I think. Don't have any Octave type pedals at the moment. They look like a lot of fun.
Don't look at me I'm irrelevant!
