**UPDATE**

Post by rodvonbon »

I finally found the time to get this project back on track. After a couple months sitting around my basement the wrinkled up paint sort of flatteded out and sanding took care of the rest. It's not perfect and to be honest I don't really care, considering what it looked like to begin with. I was still able to use nitro clear and tinted for the top coats and I guess time took care of the funkyness that was going on before. I let some of the tinted clear get sanded off while wet sanding and used the buffing wheel to replicate wear patterns, not quite relicing it, but getting it to match the rusty hardware and screws.

Thanks guys!
When the paint wrinkled on me I really wanted to smash it on the ground. In the end though I'm glad I was able to just walk away from it and go back a few months later with a fresh outlook. The tinted coat is a little blotchy in some areas, but thats due to me trying to get tricky while buffing.
I've also got an old pearl guard in my parts box that I might put on it when I do the final set up.

I will be thrilled if mine turns out that well. I am going to have to monkey around getting the stripes right.

Actually, could you post a few straight on shots of one of your factory stripes?

I posted a bunch of pictures in THIS thread. Page 4 shows the starting point on the butt end. I ended up centering the outer most stripe on the strap button.

1 Look at strings
2 Mash fingers into strings
3 Strum other end of strings
4 Declare it to be an A-major sus-47 chord of the Pentecostal scale
5 Smile with satisfaction as 98% of fellow guitarists believe you because they don't understand either

rodvonbon wrote:So after a day of drying I set about putting on the color coats. While I was waiting for it to dry I put a fresh coat of LPB in nitro on my Swinger with great results. The flake in the LPB was kickass and gave a real deep look. I felt pretty confident on how the paint flowed, so I started painting the Mustang. It was Ok I guess, but nothing like how the Swinger turned out. I then started looking at pictures of Sherwood Green and sooooo realized - I hate that fucking color. It is not at all what I thought it would look like and not nearly as metal flakey as I wanted.
I let it dry and went back to the drawing board by sanding and priming.....again.

Wait a second. now wait just an effin second! Is that a white AK47 with a mustang bridge on it, on the left hand side of the pic in front of the blonde duo/stang?

Rod, can you please post pics of your other Mustang's in this thread or direct me to a thread with them in? A friend of mine loves 'stangs (especially in comp orange) and wants to see.
