New Here. My New Ibanez ORM1... Pics

Post by Paul »

Hi guys new here so thought i would start off with some pics of my new shortie, first off let me say that i have had em all (guitars that is, not women) Epi's Gibson's Squier's Fender's Paul Reed Smith, to name a few, i have wasted a small fortune on guitars that i initially thought were the right choice but in the end i always found something to cry about when it came to comfort until i came across the Ibanez ORM1, this thing is super comfy and at present i can't see me wanting anything else, this thing is definitely a keeper.
I had planned on switching the pickup for a P-90, preferably from a PRS SE One (in my opinion one of the best sounding P-90s out there) but the stock pickup is actually pretty good, i am in the process of switching the tuners out for Sperzel type locking tuners but the shop sent 6 tuners to fit the low E side of the headstock so i'm waiting for the high E side to be sent out, anyway here is some pics.
BTW, I have also fitted a strap button to the upper horn.

Welcome to the forum.
I imagine that plays nice, Ibanez quality is awesome even on budget models. The black/red tort model caught my eye a while back.
Do you miss the Tone control at all?

yeah, that's hot shit. A rail would not have been my pup choice though. But that's easily resolved.

I'm dying to play one of these. These white ones look so crisp and elegant. Neck looks awesome too.

Welcome 8)

Well, i kinda got used to no tone control when i had the PRS SE One, just fiddle with amp and pedal settings to compensate, having said that there is plenty of room under the pickguard to add a tone control. i still wouldn't mind the PRS P-90 but finding one is proving difficult.

I love the bridge design. It looks like a great blend of classic looks and modern functionality.

Thanks Thomas, why not go try one out, i've got to say.... these guitars are a perfect example that you don't need to spend big bucks to get good kit, the Chinese are upping their game i reckon.

I really like these. Way more than any other recent new guitars I can think of. There are some Squiers that have tempted me and a few others but this one seems to grab me by the balls and shout 'buy me.

The problem is that I really want to only have as many guitars as are necessary, a properly stripped-down setup. There are already some guitars I love and can see myself buying at some point that I'm trying to ignore. I don't really need another on that list.

It is nice though, and the colour combo is pure win. I think I may just prefer the natural/tort version that Omar guy had but there's not a lot in it.

Im a big fan of Omar Rodriguez Lopez and all his work, and this guitar is no exception. Ive played one in a store a couple of times, they play wonderfully. They are absolutely great guitars.

EDIT: They might be coming in the natural finish james is talking about next year, omar played a white one on the 2008 bedlam tour and they only had the black one out. Then 2009 came and ibanez released the white one, now in 2009 hes playing this new natural finish one. Maybe 2010 we will see the natural one in stores.

For those worried about the lack of tone control here's a pic of the cavity, plenty of room to add one,

How close is the body shape to a Talman. It looks pretty damn close.
