I finally put an LED back in my Wooly Mammoth clone. It's difficult to take photos of LEDs with a normal camera but I figure it was worth a go. You can also see the sort of textured finish. I was spraying some clear and noticed a slight overspray on the back got that sort of texture and liked it so I carried on doing it on the front. Then I ran out and swapped for a new can. The new can was much more powerful than the old so the effect was exageratted. I quite like it, suits the elephant theme. Pink LEDs FTW as well.

Off work poorly, but I've got the house to myself this afternoon so obviously:

The Mike'd Rat has a new lease of aesthetic life, thanks to a mix-up involving some small black pointer knobs not being large white pointer knobs, and very pretty it looks now too. It also sounds amazingly good pushing the Ultrafuzz, a pedal I never thought it would gel with. The IC muff remains godly, and the TOD can my my SG sound pleasantly ZZ Top-ish. Plus - all of these pedals have a SS.org connection: the Ultrafuzz and Rat were Jame's, and the Rat has since been Mike'd. The Muff was Justin's, and the TOD was one of the few witnesses of shortscale do Gloucester...

Pic from my OCD thread... still not conviced the OCD sounds any better than the cool cat drive but what the hell... it looks nicer.

Pretty happy with my board now, I'm wondering whether to out the echohead for a DD7 at some point but not too sure just now. One day when I get a spare min at work I'll put them to a battle of repeats...

also bought an amp stand for the classic 30 which you can see the feet of... beware anyone buying one of these when you have an open back amp, its currently sitting against the valve protection cage !! Still it's pretty sturdy none the less.

The OCD and second dirt channel of the amp coupled together produce some quite nice fuzzy tones... they don't gel that well but the confrontation sounds quite appealing to me. I will do a demo sometime soon...

The yellow thing is a linear mixer in case I need to run the drum machine and the guitar into one amp. Which I found to be USELESS becasue it osunds way better to run one instrument into each channel of my fucking 2 channel amp. Duh. I will probably construct some kind of big lump of foam and tape to make the PLAY button easier to activate with mah foot...

Have you tried plugging in the guitar straight into the amp on the off-chance that the crackle is coming from one of your pedals or patch leads? I had been getting a similar sound and thought my amp needed looked at but when I was changing out one of my pedals I noticed that the problem had gone. I traced it to the specific box. I'll have to pop it open and see if I can spot anything that's come loose or is too close to something it shouldn't be.

My latest purchase: Sound City 30C

I bought it because its a small, loud valve amp that i think looks cool.
Its not an old 70s model, its a reissue(?) about 1-2 years old, they were distributed by Arbiter which went out of business so these are no longer available. Its a heavy little thing with one 12" speaker (unknown brand) and two channels: 1 clean, 1 Overdrive/Distortion.

First impressions were a decent clean channel although the reverb is of awful quality thanks to the 'AXL' reverb box i can visually see inside the amp. The Overdrive at low volume sounds unrefined, almost solid state and trebly. But cranked up it is really good.
I may swap them chinese valves out for something 'better', this was another reason i bought this, i wanted a cheap valve amp to modify and help learn more about how they work.

They were sort of popular in the 70s, British made amplification. The originals are quite sought after now.

no, it does it even if nothing is plugged into the amp and with the master turned completely off

i'm thinking it might be the mismatched cab issue, the lowest i can run that cab is 8 ohms, granted its been on 16 for a bit aswell.

sound city were from the same people behind hi-watt amps. a lot of the sound city amps were identical to their hi-watt counterparts. main difference is the sound city stuff wasn't hand-wired.

nice score fran, i quite like these amps. nearly picked up the 20 combo for practising.
