changing the trem unit on my strat
this is something i've wanted to do since i had it. the current bridge is a two point custom shop bridge with vintage saddles. whilst this is nice and stable, it just doesn't look right to me. doesn't have that classic fender six screw bridge that i prefer the look of.
seeing as i'm never really going to sell this guitar, i feel i'd like to change the bridge to a six screw vintage style bridge. i'm going to have to fill the two old bridge post holes, but these will be covered by the new trem anyway.
thoughts? am i mad?

Benecol is there any performance gains with the two pin type? Sometimes wandered about changing my 6er to a twoer based on internet hearsay ...... but always held off. it does the job as it is!benecol wrote:Yes, leave it alone. While there are pros and cons of each setup, it's a pain in the arse job to do retrospectively. It's a lovely trem system as it is, and aesthetics are not a good enough reason to invite such mayhem into your life.
As for going 2 to a 6er would it be more complicated than filling and redrilling (which in itself can be a pain in the arse I admit)? Any other considerations?

The latest model American Standard strat has a 2 point bridge with vintage style saddles. I don't know what model strat you have, but it might fit.
Oops you already have that![Razz :P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)

Admit it, I saw you at Doogfest sneaking away from Hurbs pedalboard of madnoise to fondle an amber switch tip in the loo.....all I heard was "My preciousssss" and that.Mike wrote:Fuck being period correct.

Superglue four screw heads between the two pivot points? Not being facetious, it should look similar-ish. But really, I'd leave it. It's a good trem, will age at the same rate as the rest of the guitar, and while it's not quite period correct, only a geek (like us) would spot that, and it's hardly a Floyd Rose now is it?Progrockabuse wrote:would there be a way i could make it look a little more vintage like?

I know desparingly little about being period correct. If I had to try it would be a terrible failure.Black Cat Bone wrote:Admit it, I saw you at Doogfest sneaking away from Hurbs pedalboard of madnoise to fondle an amber switch tip in the loo.....all I heard was "My preciousssss" and that.Mike wrote:Fuck being period correct.
I remember when BobArsecake came down to see me in London once we were out looking at guitars and he was talking about Fender transition logos. I had no idea what they were.

i think the only thing i know about period correct is the bridge. everything else i kinda think is more or less 60's style.

i know, i'm going by looks. the bridge would be the thing that sticks out the most as it not being correct, looks wise.Mike wrote:It's a Classic Player guitar. It's meant to be a riff on an old guitar with modern updates.
It has a 12" radius!!!
