He's obviously playing for a different audience, but for me the tones arent interesting in either pedal.

I am more than happy with the Bad Monkey, it may not be cool to have one on your board like some pedals but its 'bread and butter' stuff. A good overdrive is priceless, boring? I find a lot of delay/pitch shifting/ring mod noise demos boring and uninteresting to be honest- "Hey! Mike, thanks for the kind words, I'm flattered. The feeling is mutual, as you know.
James: Sadie and I always discuss what the pedal is about before we shoot, but we don't script per se. She has a way with words and actions that I would rather capture ad hoc if possible. In this case I told her that it was an overdrive and that it was one of the most expensive one could buy. I also told her that one guy on another forum said it looked like a cooktop and that we might be able to fry an egg on it. The 'toaster' thing was her own invention although she implied that 'my dad and I think it looks like..' That's cool, she's 7. And anyway, who cares? (Actually, there's a LOT of critique at the 'serious' forum.

As to the boring sounds; they're overdrives. I'm not sure how I can make them more interesting than they are. Suggestions? The point of the clip was to try and approximate one pedal's sound with the other. It's just a bit of fun, that's all. I know the Klon will eat the Bad Monkey in terms of headroom, definition, build, looks, desirability and everything else. That matters little though, because I do these clips for fun. That's all. People take them so bloody seriously though..

I thought the intro was cute.
I'm definitely left underwhelmed with the klon and not really seeing how the price is justified at all... which I guess is sort of the point of a shootout demo, yeah? Well done then.

I can't believe the reaction you got on lawyerswhoplayguitar.com, although I guess it was sadly predictable. I think your playing is great, and always applicable to the pedal in question - it's amazing how excited people get about Overdrives, and yet how damn close you can get sometimes to the same sounds from wildly different boxes. I thought it was a really cool video and a real eye opener, if anyone sees it for more than that, then it's their issue. The fact of the matter is that if you can play, you can get 95% the way there with 10% of the outlay in equipment.

Arr, welcome aboard - I'm a fan of your demos. And another exponent of small children messing with effects pedals, although this may change since my daughter tweaked my Memory Boy into oscillating, deafening madness, but I didn't notice 'til I clicked it on during a quiet section of Saturday's improvised music workshop...

I have to say, Burgs, I sold my Klon after seeing that demo.
FWIW the demo was the straw that broke the camel's back. For me it was a matter not of whether the Klon or Bad Monkey was superior but a matter of whether I needed OD to begin with. The answer came to a quick "no."
I had a ton of fun with the Klon and really do think it is a great OD/Clean boost but I simply realized I didn't need it.

You're part of the reason I ordered myself a Sansamp Liverpool. Awesome playing on those Tech 21 demos!
Can you provide any advice in terms of using it (the Liverpool)? I'm going to mainly use it for recording. I also have the Classic Studio reverb plugin which you mentioned using as well. Any good plate settings you could share?

CSR: Yes, very underrated piece of kit, that one. I use the Plate reverb as an auxiliary send in Logic and mostly go for the Vintage Plate setting. I wind the decay back a bit and then just blend a little in from the guitar's channel strip. It's a great reverb. Best one yet, I reckon.
You'll find a ton of good uses for the Liverpool. As you've noted, it's best used as a direct device (IMO) and benefits from something with a good feed to your computer ie. the PRS Waves interface or something like that. But any decent AD device from RME, M-Audio, Digidesign etc will do the trick. The real Vox sounds can be had by keeping a handle on the gain control. Don't crank it too much. Let your right arm do the talking.
