Can the chrome parts from Jaguars fit onto Jazzmasters?

Talk about all other types of guitars. Jazzmasters and basses go here!

Can the chrome parts from Jaguars fit onto Jazzmasters?

Post by liams_coke_dealer »

I have a jazzmaster and its cool as fuck but i would like to do a little customisation on it.

i want to get new tone/ volume controls but i am really interested to know if the chrome parts from the Jags fit onto the Jazzmasters.

I realise that the pickup selector plate will not fit as the jag has diff switches to the Jazz, but the plates that sit on the tone/volume controls and the rhythm/lead circuit switches are the same size arent they?

You will have to cut the Jazzmaster pickguard for the metal plates and drill some new holes. It should work, but I have not personally done this mod.

thurston moore has done this with the jag control plate on a lot of his jazzmasters. it doesn't exactly fit. for starters the knobs on the jaguar and jazzmaster aren't in the same place.

Weird. That JM of Thurston's there in that pic seems to have a standard set of strings on it. Very strange.

You could but the metal plates would be higher and would look tacky. You might place the plates on top to trace out where they go. You will need to have to remove the pickguard and pots to get the plates to lay flat. Hopefully the plates cover the previous routes and screw holes.

Here is a pic I found:

I have a bigger pic of Olivers JM with the Jaguar chrome ,I'll upload it for you guys.

His isn't the neatest mod I've ever seen as I've seen some ones JM with it and it looked perfect. Anyway, I like Olivers CIJ JM's and Jags as I'm not one for neatness! :)

Edit- here you go- (sorry they are blury, these are all I have)

i don't think it would really line up. i would think the lower (straighter) line of the upper control plate would interfere with the neck pickup... looks shite regardless.

that mod seems dumb, jazzmasters look perfect without the chrome.

I'm pretty sure T. Moore does it because he wants a metal jack plate, presumably because the plastic JM one keeps breaking on him.

as much abuse as they appear to take in photos.
that seems quite logical.

This might give some relationship of where things are located in comparison of a Jazzmaster and Jaguar

If you had a custom s/guard made it looks like it'd work pretty well. Not sure about the routing on the JM fitting though.
