Copper Handbag and Wallet

Post by Narco Martenot »

This is a project that I am really excited about. I have spent the last month and a half working on this, and I am really happy with the outcome. It is a birthday gift for my girlfriend, which is coming up in a few weeks.

It is a copper handbag and wallet, with a special gift box.

The handbag itself features a 24-gauge copper outer shell, with a wooden frame covered in black cotton velvet fabric; held together by copper nails, rivets and nickel closure hardware. It was polished to a mirror shine, and finished with a thick coat of nitrocellulose lacquer.

The outer part of the wallet is made of the same copper material, with a light chromium oxide green cowhide inner; featuring a monogram that I made for her. The monogram is actually a patina from a special solution that I made.

The gift box is made of cardboard, and has been painted light chromium oxide green, with copper leaf details. It is also lined with black velvet.

Looks brilliant. I was actually just wondering today why you hadn't posted any projects lately. Turns out you were busy after all.

The more I look at this, the more I like it.

I once made a bag out of duck tape, lined and trimmed with a paisley blouse I got in a charity shop. It ended up being good, except that I varnished it, and the varnish ended up flaking up pretty bad.

No photos, though.
