You know what? I think it's the pickguard that makes this guitar look weird... a darker colour would look better in contrast to the light-coloured wood. A darker stain on the body might help as well.

yes, exactly.
natural + tort = horrible.
natural + black = excellent!
Something like this wouldn't be so bad: Jaguar Pickguard
...As long as it's dark.
Incidentally, if the bright red shell colour is called "Tortoise Shell," then what is the brownish-red one called?
the brownish red is vintage tort. they don't make it anymore. the stuff they have now is either red tort or the more common brown tort which is often referred to as just tortoise shell.
Fran wrote:Mad-Mike from JS.com made a Jazzy from Ash, i quite like it. The grain is more 'interesting' than Alder and i also like the black guard/pup covers.
However, the Jag-Stang i built did'nt really do it for me with the natural finish.
Ash has the best grains. Loving the forearm contour grains. Alder grains usually aren't as dramatic
That natural wood looks like an old American public school desk to me. At least carve some shit into it.
This XII has the most bland wood. The only character is in the scratches. The is such a weird pull on me to leave it fucked up looking. The scratches on the back are totally Sonic Youth looking. I don't think I am going to sand it very carefully in some spots.

ahahahahhha +12435
Side note: there was this desk in my Bio room that had SLAYER carved into it, I swear to god it was 4 inches tall and a good nine inches long, it was like somebody's senior project or something, it was the best desk ever.
Did Fender ever make natural ash jags or Jazzies in the 70's? Or were these models extinct by the time Fender started using that look? I quite like the natural Mustangs like Stewart's, and the pic of Mad-Mike's ash Jazzmaster makes me want to see more like that.
