According to Jay, replacement guards are 60 days out. So if you don't like the color combo, you'll be able to switch it easily in a few months.

GFS just slayed rondo's SJM market. Unless rondo brings back the 24" scale SJM's again.hotrodperlmutter wrote:i'm gonna see if Rondo will take back my SX jazzmaster and i'm gonna get that surf/mint telemaster.

I like the carmel/maple telemaster (of course the most $) and I kind of like the orange jazzy. Especially if I can order the black Pguard down the road for it. Not sure about the mint (although it might be fine once I get it...) The orange would be awesome if it was more of that fiesta red aged orange color. Then it would be the winner for sure. I don't like the black and white or sunburst ones that much and the red tort is pretty crappy tort it seems. Decisions...

Pickups are always swappable. For me, it's the trem system that makes all the difference. For "closer" authenticity I'd go for the p-90's not necessarily because of the pickups but because of the jazz style trem. Then it'll at least feel like a real jazz.

oolu wrote:You play the two strings together as if they were one. It feels a little funny the first few times you play one, but you get used to it. They're the biggest pain in the ass for tuning, though. Super light strings + my heavy hand = tuning every 5 minutes.endsjustifymeans wrote:At the risk of sounding like the noob that I am...Mike wrote:12s are great for lush chording. They're not hard to play if they're good guitars.
How do you play them? Do you play two strings as one and chord normally or do you actually fret each string?
Our 360-12 has poor intonation up the neck due to the 6-saddle bridge, but it stays in tune really well.
Speaking of teh Rix, Rickenbackers have the octave and bass strings switched, which tends to make it more of a "rhythm player", though the upper end rarely is not heard. Just the same, at the beginning of our Doomcomp tune (Death : Embrace...), I intentionally played the upper (Gg) strings with an upstroke to emphasize the upper octave, which otherwise wouldn't have been so audible. The effect that a 12 string can have (modulation w/o effects, increased harmonics, jangle power, etc.) makes it an invaluable arrow in many a quiver. MUCH LOVE.
I found when I played 12 string acoustic I could never ever get all 12 strings perfectly intonated and after a while I liked that. I think that actually sounds attractive to the average person's ear. Maybe to somebody with perfect pich it would drive them nuts but your average person likes things detuned and imperfect without even realizing it.
+1 they go to all that trouble to get the mojo flair going and then opt for the dullest headstock possible. It's not even got enough wood to carve into something a bit more interesting. Totally would buy one still if they were uk based. Can't be arsed with import tax anymore.stewart wrote:a clever marketing person would make these available (as an option) with just the body and electronics, because i can see a LOT of necks getting swapped out. that headstock is pretty honkin'.
