This is a fantastic question; I hadn't even considered that. I'll have to pull the guard off and at least have a look.
If there's anything I should be on the lookout for, I'll defer to the experts here. My knowledge of Mustang vintage correctness has probably tripled in the last two days, but that still leaves me way short of most ShortScalers.

i've said the same thing before. the only reason to be concerned would be if you're buying this to flip it because some collectors would get shitty about a swimming pool under the guard. so unless they routed it almost clear through to the back, who cares?

Fair enough. That's more or less what I meant; nothing like, "Oh dear, it's routed for humbuckers! No deal then, sir -- no deal."
I'm still waiting to meet up with the guy. He contacted me this morning and said he's going to be out of town for a bit for work, so the waiting might damn near kill me.
