NOT Comp Orange. Mustang Project. Colour poll and new pics

FYI for anyone else thinking about this (in the US) You can get Grabber Orange acrylic (after the Mustang car) in aerosol cans, either as a MODEL PAINT, or for car TOUCH UPS.

I layed both a Fiesta Red and a Dakota Red guitar next to the stripes and neither is close, really.
I would say though that if the color you get is really orange do dakota and if it's really yellow do fiesta, if those are your only options.
The reissue comp orange body color is way more orange than the old guitars and looks like they used dakota.
And like I said before the body color of the old ones seems to effect the stripe color and they've faded so much it's hard to say. I would think Fender didn't mix up a batch of some "new" color just to do theses stripes, so I would guess they used fiesta.

Thats quite interesting and something I did not know. I can deffinatly tell that the color is not as solid as other comp guitars. That plus fading makes it hard to judge what color was used without first hand knowledge.

Rodvonbon, Matocaster, quite literally I am spunking wads of thanks at this moment. Rod for your eye witness account of aged Comp Orange and Mat for your insider techie knowledge - dudes i owe ya a pint if ever we meet. Looks like semi clear dakota red now, however I'll get the comp orange first do a test spray and post up the results to check the end result. Anyone ever considered profiles of classic finishes? this is what we have here... makes sense for those who google hereafter to save time..

Okay finally got my hands on the paint from the Post Office and it's definitely a new-Comp Orange as opposed to a faded yellow-comp (which is my ideal) so I think it's a case of let nature take its course on this one. Still nice colour nonetheless:

Not yet - in two minds as the body was redrilled for pickguard holes ideally and i want'ed to get a Guard first so i can properly fill and sand the appropriate holes. As they won't be on show though it's not strictly required but I'm a bit anal like that. Waiting for payday next monday then will see what that Bluesjay chap on ebay has in stock if i can't source one from the classifieds.

Yup the weather would help for sure so hope to be in a position to do this within a monh or so. Should be oppotunity to source the guts of it too by then. On that note i need to compile a list of the parts inside a Mustang - something i know nowt about. Will buy quality new parts i think.

Can't wait to see it with the floyd rose on.

Two Grolsch bottle 'washers' for straplocks.

White Number 1 Stretch Strap

Machineheads - possibly vintage but practicality required.

Some electrical bits of unknown type and spec.

UPDATE:

Having got and started refurbishing a great Tort guard from James and slightly flumoxed over a comp orange '65 stang I decided that the pickguard is to dictate the colour...i.e no like orange and tort.

I'm pretty fond of blue and tort, and the colour needs to be available from manchesterguitartech.co.uk and be solid. Halp a bro make up his mind with any photos. I think it's between sonic or daphne in my head but be good to get yr opinions and photos to help decide.

This weekend I will be updating with all the major and lengthy refurbishing that's happened to the body and pickguard.

Yah I hear what you're saying.....I believe the body was originally white based on what was under the shielding, the neck appears to have some blue flecks left on it from whatever neck pocket that was attached to. Black is awesome but I'm still gutted to this day i wussed out on a perfect black and tort mustang for £535 on ebay...

I don't get it, I think it's a really unattractive combination. That colour would look so much nicer with a white pickguard.

I suppose for me I kinda like some idiosyncracy with my guitars. I agree a white scratch plate looks very nice but it also seems a bit staid too. Do I want to hang out with the classy kids or the cool kids?
