the custom classic series are quite deceiving at first. they have killer cleans but when if you have the time to work with it you can understand that its nowhere near the actual ac30. if you can get the proper british ac30, or if its hard to find consider the handwired version. if you must go ac30cc at least go with the blue speakers

is the CC version really that far away from a classic AC30 sound?

You mean it doesn't take pedals well or it doesn't have that great Vox chimey overdrive if you reduce the Master and turn up the Volume?

i have the english AC30 2x12, and it's the shit, all the way around.

the CC is too gainy, although the cleans are pretty nice for a chinese amp. the one i played didn't handle effects well, because when i compensated the channel gain for lowering the volume, it just got lost. it also distorts too much, too early.

were you looking at the head? the cc2's are much nicer, and sound better (although not much), but it really depends on what cab (speakerwise) you're using.

the cc's sound decent clean through blues, but total utter shit through the wharfdales (which tend to make everything tubed sound shit).

It's weird you say the CC's distort early, I've only played an original 60s one and a 90s Reissue and they were both Brutally loud before they got particularly crunchy.

i dunno at the moment. this is a long-term desire :D i love the sound of an ac30 both clean and dirty. i have had a look at the handwired ac15 which sounds pretty nice with the el86? tube in it. not going to be getting one for a bit but i was just wondering the opinions on the CC as they seem to pop up second hand often and if i have enough cash.....

i just really meant when it does distort, it did too much too early. it was like there was no blend. it just got crap sounding once it hit about 6 o'clock. i played it about 3 minutes before i was like, "nah, this ain't for me."

i <3 the brian may though. way too much money for no tonal controls, but damn, it sounds great straight out the box.

If I was going to buy an AC30 these days I would just pony up, do a proper bit of gear liquidation and saving and get the Heritage version (AC30H2). Waaaay closer to the real thing, and it would tick your resale value boxes.

£1,300. But it is the shit.

just hold out for an english RI from the 90's. while harder to find, they're just nicer. they are the real thing.

Hey all,

My first post! IMO the Chinese Vox's are fantastic amps if you don't want to mortgage your house to get an original.
The H2 handwired sound the best but are missing the 'verb/trem options. I picked up a CC2 for the 'verb/trem built in
and will be putting new speakers in (google Warehouse Speakers - they make alnico copies that sound as good if not better than the real blues).

Also if you are really into perfect tone and will not be gigging the amp much hunt down a nice JMI/90's brit one.
If you are gigging regularly then half the audience will have tinnitus/will be drunk and wont care if you own John Lennon's orignal
AC30 or a Chinese one.

P.S. They are gainy due to the stock tubes. Put JJ's in when you get it to alleviate this!

Cheers!

What riff is riotshield playing at like 1:40? Isn't it radiohead?

Yeah, I think that's Reckoner off of In Rainbows.
