Is a DL4 good for me?
Does anyone use a DL4? I've been seeing some pretty cool vids of people doing some layering with them and the delay's seem pretty good too.
I'm trying to figure out how the delay sounds in comparison to the cheaper analog versions (memory boy & memory toy & carbon copy). I really dig the sampling/looping function of this pedal, and think it would be a lot of fun to use and be creative with it....but my concern is how the delay selections sound...are they model accurately?

I use a DL4 and swear by it. I love my DL4. All the sounds are very controllable and you can dial them in to sound just like what they are modeled after. being able to save 3 presets and have tap tempo is amazing for me. The DL4 also makes it really easy to recall your sounds like instantly, its great live. But yeah the sounds are really good, and with all the controls you can pretty much get delay sound you need to get.
here's my demo of mine. Maybe this will help you out as far as the sounds go.

I have not used one in awhile. Did they get over the issues with breaking. I know alot of people who had these and the pedals just did not stand up to live gigging. But, to be fair, we are talkin 3-4 years ago, not current models.
That said, they all loved the pedal. And the short loop can be fun to play with.

I hear about the switches on these breaking a lot, ive had no trouble with mine, mine is a newer one. I bought it brand new in june of this year. A lot of my friends have newer ones too and have experienced no problems with them. So I think they fixed that.

I have one and I like it alot. So versatile and the 3 presets and tap tempo are great. It also has a looper that people go ga-ga for. I am having a little trouble with my #2 preset switch. It sometimes doesn't want to turn on/off. I usually have to push it again. Is that something I can fix myself? Just replace the switches?
I still think I might want an Memory Boy to have a real Analog Delay, but I wouldn't ever give up my DL4. Its the only modeling effect/amp I like from Line 6.

Can I wade in and say that I really dislike them (hate to be a nay-sayer), but I've had one thats died and so has a friend of mine. Just one day working fine, next day, fucking dead. No reason at all. Fucked me right off it did.
The delays are nice-ish to my ears, but maybe there are better pedals out there now. Possibly you could check out a small footprint looper and an analog delay? An RC-2 and a Deluxe Memory Boy (out soon), would probably end up near the same price, if just a little more expensive. And probably take up the same amount of pedalboard real estate.
Or you could check the Digitech Timebender or the EHX SMMw/H. The Digitech Timebender looks to put every other pedal out there (or the ones that I've seen anyway) to bed. An endless looper, a really really good analog modeller and a rhythm function on it that looks fucking amazing. Plus it does all the soundscapey washy octavey stuff if your into that, and you can hook footswitches and exp. pedals to do all the same stuff and more than a DL4. If I was gonna splash on a modelling "all singing - all dancing" delay, that would be it.
The one thing that it does have in its favour is all the buttons. That was handy.
