Ashdown Bass Amps?

Post by Boab »

Any opinions on these kinda amps, particularly the heads?

From playing one in a shop it sounded pretty awesome, so I wondered what you folks thought about th ABM series, particularly the old-ish Evo ii's?

Cheers.

I know bugger all about bass amps, but our old bass player used to play Ashdown amps - boh combo and head and they sounded pretty sweet to my ears.

I've yet to play an Ashdown amp I didn't like, even the lower end combos- if the head sounds great and your own cab is comparable, gopher it.

i liked it lots. simple and good for that price though i must say i could get a much better gnarly bass sound with my sansamp bass driver in front of it, just gave it a bit more balls. sub octave is very subtle but good if you like some extra low end without having to sacfrice the clarity and punch. i put it through an ampeg svt 410 and an eden 210 but always wondered how much better it could've sounded if i just would've gotten a 12 in that setup or a couple but the size would've been a problem and the ampeg alone was heavy enough, sucks when you gotta haul around your own gear

other than quality issues, convo should have ended here.

They've gained in popularity in the Korean club scene, and I've played one pretty consistently over the past three years or so.

I personally like them a lot. They take OD almost as well as the all-tube Ampegs I've been fortunate enough to crank, and have solid cleans with a very usable EQ.

They seem to be cracking amps, I've not owned one but have had quite a few friends with them who love them.

The bass player in my new band uses an Ashdown head and cab, I've not had chance to have close look at it yet but it certainly sounds the business...

I've played through a few of their heads and combos (including a new-ish tube model, very nice!), own the MAG300 myself. Always managed to dial in a decent and usable tone in each instance, they're pretty good in that respect. I think they tend to put in cheap fuses that blow almost immediately, no gripes other than that though!

I haven't actually played one, but I've heard gripes about reliability and construction. Last time I was in the market for a bass amp was several years ago though, so they may have made some changes.
