First guitar for a friend

My buddy's lady friend is looking to buy a guitar for christmaz and apparently I'm the foremost expert in my social circle, so I've been playing consultant. I've managed to steer her away from stuff like the mini strat and stuff, and she almost decided on The red sparklez Tele in the other thread, but then she decided on a Metallic Green squier standard.

So hurray moar guitar players!

Totally. If someone wanted me to recomend them a quality first guitar i'd say either a vintage modified or a classic vibe.

Yes, I've heard the pickups and the overall quality is apparently great on late 90s/early 2000s MIM Fenders.
not had a chance to play one myself though.

But i've played a newer 'electron blue' one which wasn't bad.

Squiers are terrific quality for the price, as folk have said.

The Classic Vibes will no doubt do a ProTone (which are exceptional, imo) on us all, and grow an increasingly obsessive following over time.

i know the blue you speak of. quite gash.

if you ever get the opportunity, play one. my 2000 MIM strat is just fantastic quality, and came with mint on 3T burst. the pickups were incredible for a $200 guitar, but ended up replacing them and pots with vintage noiseless.

Not a terribly cool guitar but the original Yamaha Pacifica were noted for great build quality for the price and played well off the shelf. I think in their very cheap price range they were considered the 'best in class' at that time. the one i had played great. For beginners a guitar that plays well or not can, depending on their motivation, be the make pr break factor on whether they keep it up.

The yamaha pacifica 112v i had was awesome. Had to sell it though so i could buy my harmonic perc.

the quality is good. i recently played one at "big dudes music city" (local meathead store), funny you ask!

the necks were very similar, although with a bit more gloss to them (mine has nawt). if you sand the older ones down a bit, they don't get sticky when you sweat alot.

the 70's logo on the headstock is ugly, and they look cheap, as before they just were cheap (monetarily). they're fine, but not $900 fine. i'd much rather have an older one with luscious, true strat tone. i still have my stock pickups, and will find a squier or something to mod. i miss the tone (don't get me wrong, the AV noiseless rule).

A MIM Fender as a first guitar?! When I got my first guitar I could only dream of a Fender. A Â£250 Classic Vibe Squier would've been too much even. I had a standard series squier and it was fine. It didn't sound the best but it played nicely - which I think is the most important thing for a beginner.

i had this 'orrible encore classical.

then i had an encore electro-acoustic that had a huge action and an overbowed neck. it's so hard to play, i must have had SUPERHUMAN FINGERS when i finally bought an electric guitar.

My first guitar, that I actually ever played, was a early 2000's Les Paul Special II. It was almost enough to make me not want to play anymore... then I got a MIM Duo-Sonic and things started to make sense.

My first was a 3/4 sized Encore nylon string piece of crap. Then a Tanglewood strat copy, then a Squier. I should've jumped straight to the Squier, it wasn't much of an upgrade from the tanglewood except with playability. I remember when I had the tanglewood i went to a mates and played his guitar. It felt amazing, low action and really easy to play. So i looked up what it was and how much it cost - a Â£180 Squier!

My first guitar was a hollowbody harmony that I got when I was 11 and never touched. Eventually gave it to my bassist.

My first guitar was a silvertone nylon string. still have it now. My parents required that I play it for one year before they'd get me an electric, cause they didn't want me to just give up.
