from what scribble i can see on the headstock it might be one of these:

not sure if it has the neck pup though.

edit: forgot to actually say what it was. gordon smith gs 1.5

Nope not custom at all. Quite cheap. Though not as much as they were. Very workman guitars. Fran loves him some GS. As do I. A GS is going to be in my future at some point.

I've come within a hair's breadth of ordering a GS twice now, and hope to have one one day. I've always hankered after a twin cutaway GS2, but they are tiny on me. I think maybe a single cutaway with a P90...

Gordon Smiths are really nice guitars, but probably about as dull as it gets. When I am 60 and I decide I want a Les Paul-style guitar with no frills, I will gladly get a Gordon Smith, safe in the knowledge that my days of being cool are well and truly behind me, with the final clumps of dirt being patted down simply by having purchased a Gordon Smith. Also, it will look far less desperate than a Gold Top, or a PRS.

In fact, it will look the polar opposite of desperate, and in fact look like I've given up completely and am actually awaiting death. They're like the nursing homes of guitars. The rest of your days in comfort, but also in beige. I hate beige.

Pretty much the only reason I've never bought one is the resale value is shit. A new one is Â£600 or so and will fetch Â£250-300 on ebay. If you buy a new one you can specify colours, bridge type, maple or rosewood, all sorts of details, but you're paying a hefy fee for it. I think they're worth Â£600 when compared to what Â£600 will buy you elsewhere, and they're certainly worth Â£300 in the used market, the only thing that competes at the price is some of the 70s/80s Japanese stuff.

I've been watching them on ebay for a long time, and have seen some fantastic looking ones. TV yellow, one p90 types and that sort of thing, but I've never seen a nice one when I've been looking to buy a new guitar. Eventually it will align and I'll be looking when one that looks good and has the features I want shows up, but it's not happened yet.

I might order one, but I think there are other guitars I'd rather spend Â£600 on that would stop me from doing that. Â£600 will also just about build a good parts guitar so that's another barrier at that price point.

Reminds me of the Variax that the lead guitarist in the B-52's used when I saw them last year at the Community Theater in Morristown, N.J.
