The white is actually a crappy amateur refi by some prior owner, I was mucking around with the Builder and actually decided I might do black, or other very dark color, if I refinished it again.
Initially I thought I might change it to the standard white body scheme: red tort guard, white pickup covers- which I really liked. And put in sliders too. But then I started looking more carefully at the older ones I saw. As they aged, it seems the bodies turned yellow, the pickup covers did too but at a different rate, and the white sliders barely aged at all, by comparison. So after a while you have three different shades of white/yellow that all kind of clash with each other, and do not go as well with the red tort pickguard as their original shades did. In my eyes. So I decided to pass on that path. Though I think the new ones look really sharp, possibly best look of all.
Is there some different guitar paint that is being used nowadays which will not fade to yellow so much? And are any of the newer models using this? (Hmm, come to think of it the color of mine hasn't faded much, no idea what that hack used though)
what kind of neck is that? i doesnt look like the mustangs neck...

that looks almost like cobains fender mustang, only that it was sonic blue, with a red pickguard.. but the white with red looks better, nice humbucker... where did you find it?
bought it in bits in peices... vintage 66 body, refinished... jagstang neck & all hardware... vintage 65 Mustang pickguard (already routed, wouldn't dare cut up anything vintage)

EMG 81 & 85
ok. why the emg pickups? why not one double humbucker and one single coil in dimarzio style or seymor duncan?

It's a Musicmaster II neck. And body too, for that matter. The body was modded with a second pickup and toggle switch, is all.
As far as I know though the Musicmaster II and Mustang "B" necks of the day (1965 in this case) were identical, save for decals designating the appropriate model.

Nice looking Jaguar. Very nice.
For some reason I like the white Jaguars better than the Mustangs, maybe because the Jaguars do not have the white sliders that yellow so drastically less than the bodies.
The maple fingerboard and silver humbucker & hardware add some contrasting colors to that black on black tele, with that combination it isn't as Vaderish and looks good to me as well.

His own personal preference perhaps?
I'm not big on fx, prefer to get all my tone outta my guitar/amp.
Tried different high output passive pickups, never really liked any... I remember the last one I tried was the Invader. It had huge magnets (kill sustain/f*ck up intonation) and the tone was to bassy for me... bassy cause it was overwound. So active was the way to go.... high output, no byproduct of bass.
If I could do it over again, I'd probally would of installed the bridge pickup straight, instead of slanted... and a single coil version of the 85 in the neck position.... for looks.

Wow, there is just something about a Mustang. Its such a nice looking axe, the white/red tort is sexy as hell. Ive got wicked gas for one after reading this thread.
