and the reason why. . . i had a lpb comp stang for years. it was way fun to play, easy to mod and restore, and looked awesome. i had no complaints, but it had to go when i needed moneys.dots wrote:'69 COMP STANG FOR LYPHE

is this robroe signed in as an alias again?Ti-Ron wrote:It's a hard one! Seriously I love both of them!
When I think about Mustang I have two images in my head:
1) Kurt Cobain with a white '65 with red tort on it!
2) Kurt Cobain with a LPB Comp!
Both images are really nice, but I prefer the bridge of the 65!!
I have never played a '65 RI but I do own a '69, which I love. But, I had to swap the pickups to get rid of the craptacular stock ones. I changed other things on it, too, but these were for purely cosmetic reasons (E.g. white button Klusons, new pickguard). The bridge saddles do have gaps, but this has never made a difference in any way whatsoever. They've never rattled, despite my rough-at-times playing. I owned a vinatge 'Stang for a while, and I found no functional difference between the '69 and the vintage bridge. I did prefer the neck on the '69 RI by a wide margin though.
I'm guessing the '65 would be a better buy if you really want the classic Mustang single coil sound, since the stock pickups on those seem to be spot-on from what I read/heard from other shortscalers. But if you're planning on modding the thing, I'd say the '69 is good because they're cheaper than the '65 and there isn't anything "vintage correct" about that model that would upset cork-sniffers if you swapped out.
EDIT: Plus the '69, being basswood, is light as a feather, which is a good thing once your back starts to get reliced like mine.

that's right, it did have contours, and it was awesome for it. it's crazy how much you see those things reselling for on ebay. . . i think i only paid like $500 for mine brand new, and they go for around $600 - 700.hotrodperlmutter wrote:inorite? i find slab bodies uncomfortable to play. that's why.Pens wrote:Mike wrote:Dunno why anyone would give a shit what anyone else prefers in guitar body styles
