1961 SG

Post by SKC Willie »

I posted an ad on craigslist looking for trades for my Jag or Mustang. What I was really looking for was to trade my jag or stang + cash for an older or better model. Anyways, I got an offer to trade a 1961 Gibson SG for my stang or jag. It also comes with a 50 watt amp.

That being said, I don't know anything about Gibson and this guitar has had the neck busted off and repaired. Also no pickguard but original pickups.

The only reason I would do this trade is so I could turn around and sell it for more to buy a few guitars. How can I tell if it is real? It looks real to me but I don't know much. Does anyone have ANY idea what a broken, then fixed 1961 SG would sell for? Am I talking $500 or $5,000?

Thanks fo' yo' help

I think if it was a 1961, it would be the new Les Paul model that later would be renamed the SG when Les Paul went apeshit because he hated the new design.

Here is my pals '62 Les Paul that has been refinished and modified.
It had been PLEK'd and I think the pickups were fralins or something, it was an amazing playing and sounding guitar.
Sold for $1200.

I just did a serial number look up and the one you posted is a 1967, from Kalamazoo.

Judging by current ebay prices, i wouldn't offer more than $1000.

And as it turns out, the pickups aren't original.

Dang. I thought it might be a super valuable guitar. Looks like I'll be keeping my stuff though.
