EDIT: Now that I look at them, I think they are the same thing, Kurtzez just painted or coloured the blue over top of it. But still, if the JS looked like that it would be better.

thats the same picture that came with the guitar when i got it as a gift years ago!!
do you perhaps got a bigger scan?

Wait now, I don't think it feels clumsy at all! Feel is the number one quality of the Jagstang. I especially love how close the strings are to the top of the body.

What sucks about the JS: The switching. Fuck that. In the way.
The pots and pickups. The neck pickup cna be good if you put 500k pots in, which i DID. That humbucker straight up sucks though.

What RULES ABOUT IT: That fucking neck. The previously mentioned strings close to your picking hand aspect. A fairly workable tremelo. Looks sweet, feels good.

I don't think I'll ever part with mine, seriously. It's one of 3 guitars that are PERMANANT fixtures.

To be honest i dont think it feels clumsy either, it just looks clumsy, to some.

What i did with my JS to improve the original design:
1/ 3-way toggle
2/ 500k pots and the appropriate cap
3/ Duncan Custom 'bucker
4/ Jaguar tremolo
5/ TOM

It also has a vintage Bronco neck, bone nut and Grover machine heads.

Once RobertOG gets up here, I'm going to eliminate the bridge pickup and the switches alltogether, and make a new pickguard.

I love kurts original picture of the jag-stang. i would have loved if the production model was exactly the shape as pictured, or even the same shape as his sonic blue one.

you can just picture kurt sitting in his wardrobe, full of smack with his jaguar and mustang lying there and some old polaroid camera. then doing arts and crafts with it. I can't think of another artist that has come up with a unique shaped fender that wasn't a strat or tele variation, then had fender actually roll it into production. very, very underrated guitar the jag-stang.

i have always wondered why the body isn't as thin as a mustang, or why it wasn't offered in sunburst.

Do you have a video demo of you playing your Jag-stang? I would love to hear it. The only Jag-stang I have heard is the one Mad-Mike has which has the EMG pickups.

You should check out www.kurtsequipment.com. It was put together after interviews Nirvana's guitar tech. Since he actually worked on the original Jag-stang, I would tend to listen to more of what Kurt wanted.If Kurt had lived 6 more months, I really think the Jag-stang would have turned out way different.

Here's an interesting excerpt:
The "Jag-stang" was seen starting in mid-to-late 1993 (18) although Kurt rarely played it. The Jag-stang was available to the public for a short time, but isn't wasn't as Kurt intended it to be (41). Kurt didn't even like the Jagstang that much when he received it (57). He forgot to have Fender do the contours for the arm and the stomach (41). It was as thick as a Telecaster and rather misbalanced. He wouldn't even play it for the (first?) month he had it. It was also tough to set up. Earnie immediately changed the pickups, putting a Duncan JB in the bridge (57)(59). As previously stated, he installed a Tune-O-Matic bridge on it (41). Kurt had trouble with the Mustang's slider switches, which oddly appeared on the Jag-stang, but not on the Ferrington. Earnie's also puzzled as to how the Jag-stang wound up with a Mustang tremolo and bridge (59). "Kurt was funny, with both the Jag-stang and the Ferrington, he was very excited when he received them, but soon he found things about both that he overlooked or wanted to change." He had also talked with Kurt about re-shaping the body for a more traditional Fender look. Earnie told Mark Wittenberg about these changes (also, the fitted bridge). Mark was interested in the changes, but he passed away, as well. So Fender released that Jag-Stang in the way Kurt had received it (41)(59). Kurt eventually became comfortable enough to use his Jag-Stang on rare occaions for a whole show

Does anyone have silhouettes for all the Fender bodies? I would love to come up with my own body design. I kinda like the way he put two designs together, though the final result doesn't match his drawings.

No, but i think i have some sound clips somewhere, i'll take a look. No offence to mad-mike but he generally plays with a lot of processing effects, i think to get a true idea of how any guitar sounds you need to go straight into an amp.. like i did with the Mosrite.

I'd buy it for the neck and toss everything back on ebay. But Eve would kill me, I just spent $250 on more tools this morning.
