i don't know how much research you have done on the Wilshire but right now there are 3 different models out on the market.

i have 2 of the cheapest one. it comes in white or buttrock red stain...comes with humbuckers

then there is the new mid-level version that comes in faded transparent grey, and two other colors with mini humbuckers

then the stupid expensive model that comes in white or red from the gibson factory with p90's

Theres always the good old Jagmaster, i'd trust it over the Jet King and GFS stuff anyday.
I was thinking it might be worth looking at old Japanese guitars. You know about these, any ideas? Westones and such I'm thinking.

For £200 he would get a Westbury Standard and easily get a Westone Thunder with plenty of change. He'd also get an Aria Pro II depending on the model.
As you know all these guitars are in a different league to the budget range of today, but you just have to be careful of excessive fretwear and faulty electronics (especially in the Thunder 1A's case).
Avoid the later Westones though, quality was lost after they moved production from the Matsumoku factory.

Westone

Vantage

He could actually go try these out if he's in Scouseland..

Aria Pro II (Liverpool pick up only)

AWESOME Aria Pro II (Blackpool pick up only)

There's one of those hollowbody ones in Belfast for £180, I think.

Just double check they are Aria Pro II, because they still make hollowbodys that are now a bit budget. Some sellers seem to think Aria and Aria Pro II are the same thing but there is a big difference in quality.

This one was, aye. I actually meant to PM you about, because you know about these things, and I was wondering what it was.

All very good shouts. It's probably between the Vantage and the hollowbody Aria. Sticking a bid or two in on the Vantage, see how it goes.

Nah, someone else did.

We reckon this Aria Pro II in Belfast is the EA 200. I remember it looked sound, but a lot like a thirty year old guitar, and was a bit worn.

Don't mind a bit of wear on it, although it might be a bastard getting it back over the Irish Sea with Ryanair's luggage restrictions. May drop in on the fella in Liverpool with the '81 before I naff off back to a proper country for Christmas. Kinda raging about the Vantage, looked nice.

That's one of the bolt on varieties. Decent guitar, but nowhere near the quality of the set necks. I'd advise against that.
