really good for clean stuff live and recording, evens it out, you can hear the treble strings better.

I got a comp pedal just so I can do that really smushed gainey Helmet sound, ala Unsung. Other that that, never saw a use either unless you have sustain issues.

compression is a really underused and misunderstood effect i reckon. if you listen to nearly any recording there will be some degree of compression on it - bass, guitar, vocals, etc adn then you have the natural compression of distortion

it helps with sustain, for starters, but it also (depending on the type) can clean up some flabbiness or tinniness of your tone in some situations. it's not for everybody, and a compressed guitar tone definitely has it's own sound. not in my live sound currently, but i have used it on occasion. you can also employ compression for a volume boost. . . or, more accurately, you play rhythms while having compression engaged with modest settings, but then disengage it to have the tone pop out a little more, feel louder. this i have done before, and it works pretty well when used properly.

I just tried my Soul preacher with every pedal I have and the only ones I liked it with was my fullbore metal and my harmonic perculator. Though I did like it for having the highs cut through the natural distortion of the amp a bit.

I'm glad I didn't pay for it, since I really see a comp pedal having limited use on my board. But I am happy I have it, because it sounds super sweet in conjuntion with the fullbore metal.

phenominal. Best metal pedal I've ever used.

All the control and tone of the metal muff in a teeny tiny enclosure. The range of tones is very impressive... it may actually sound better than the metal muff. The higher end of the gain is definitely far more agressive.

Mid-scoop actually sound good, it has it's place. and the gate is really well done, it's very intelligent as to when the gate kicks in.
