What's the most expensive guitar you've ever played?

some 9 years ago i bought an old ES-335 for $1200. that's the most i'd (i've, probably) ever paid for a guitar. it turned out to be a '62, all original except the tuners and that the back of the neck had been refinned/painted red. had an original PAF in the bridge, neck was an early Pat.No.
the thing REEKED of tobacco.

when we discovered a big cyst in my wife's ovary i sold the thing on ebay, in case she needed surgery (which she didn't in the end, thank God). it went to japan for a little bit under 10K. i was hyped. had i had more feedback i'd gotten way more i bet. oh well.
that's the most expensive i've ever held in my hands, i think.
Pat.

99,000.00 dollar gibson les paul(59) in hollywood, i just kinda touched it, and strummed the strings.
nothing about it seemed like it was worth a house.
most expensive guitar i have ever played that i actually liked was a 66or 67 jaguar at the old chicago music exchange, it was like 2,500.00 around 01 or so, pretty beat up. red finish with matching stock, and binding with dots.
and i just remember thinking.
"wow, i would pay almost anything to own this guitar"
and i would have, hands down, i would have forked over 10 grand if i had it, even tho its not worth that much.

My guitar teacher used to leave his 70s Strat in the studio downstairs, along with a TELECASTER BASS. I honestly don't think he knew the value of it, as he kept his vintage Les Paul and 50's Strat upstairs in his bedroom.
The Strat I played looked just like this:

From what I remember, it had quite the spank. Learning the CAGED system was fun on this thing, though most of the time I had my Jagmaster with me.

not anymore. the prices on these things have gone up in the last few years. '70s strats are more in the $1500-$2500 range depending on color, year, etc.mage wrote:they're cool yea, but you can prolly get a strat like that for $1k.
it's a shame as they're really not that good. modern fender production has similar component quality and more consistent build quality. i'd just as much have a mim '70s reissue as a real '70s strat.
