it was only a matter of time with his "fancy-smancy limited edition new old stock bullocks" diodes/transistor/whatever part

Re: Bye bye Klon
That was baloney wasn't it, cos all the parts in the klon are easy gettable. There's a non-chargepump version of the klon on freestompboxes. Gotta be worth a whack.Haze wrote:fancy-smancy limited edition new old stock bullocks
Maybe the guy just got sick of chatting to tonesniffers on the phone, pathetically begging for a pedalol.

They only love theirs because they're expensive and boutique and so they each know they should.foll wrote:I am only interested in it coz Lee Ronaldo and Nels love theirs.

Definitely a unique sounding pedal. If you play lead guitar I think it's one of the best pedals to make your guitar stick out in a mix live and add cut...
I don't particularly care for the overdrive sound fullbore but I think it justifies it's popularity if not the hype, price or bizarre ordering system. Also those diodes were nothing special.

Sounds like the idea I had for the pedal I was too lazy to design. Will wrote:I watched Mike's videos. I quite like the sound. The idea behind the circuit is interesting too - the way the different frequency bands are independently distorted and then mixed together.
You know, if it was going to be a main ingredient in your sound, the price isn't that outrageous.
Sounds like the pedal I did design and breadboard just before I went insane trying to design that impossible Tremolo Hurb asked me to make fore him and I quit making pedals completely. Two paths with different RC networks and diode distortion into a blend and buffer.
Also sounds like the DOD Punkifier. Or the Buzz Box. It's not a new idea.

There's so much other stuff at play when you get your end result guitar sound, the exact overdrive pedal can't matter that much. Surely not $350 worth, which could get you overdrives, boosters, EQ pedals and have enough left over for a massive pizza and a few brewtauskis. That's a party. Just a Klon is not a party. It's more like trying to take a girl out and her Dad wants to meet you first.
