i got about half way thru the article, it wasn't nearly as snobby as some i have read, and its a good time to throw down a bit of history.
apparently a distant uncle has a couple mid 70's gibson les pauls.
you see around that time frame his father owned a plastics company in cleveland and gibson wanted to make molded cases so they sent them about 12 guitars and said, "keep em"
well, i don't know if the cases ever made it to mass production, or if tey were custom order options or what, but he still has a few of these old les pauls, and since he doesn't play, at all. apparently there is one that has been sitting in a prototype case, with the factory setup since the mid 70's
i found this out yesterday, and im trying to reach this person to get some pictures and a complete history on it.
but at the same time, it sounds to good to be true.
oh, and its a les paul custom deluxe or some crap like that,(thats what my uncle says, he doesn't play either tho so...)

That article is worse than HIV. I mean, HIV is just a non-sentient virus operating under biological laws to perpetuate its own survival and spread. It has no moral responsibility for the destruction it causes. A thinking, sentient creature in possession of basic rationality wrote that torturous bit of drivel.
I read the whole thing; here's what I got out of it:
1. Old guitars look badass and, like - they were there, man.
2. New guitars are made well and the pickups are wax potted.
It was no more enlightening than the copy from a MF catalog.

Worst 'article' ever. If I ever write something like that on shortscale PLEASE find me, shoot my head off with a nail gun because I am iredeemably douchefucked. Just kill me with no mercy. Not one of the writers actual guitar Heroes would ever write that. Doesn't that tell them something? Failed musicions/teachers and all that. Now if they had done a blind test and revealed the results THat would be very interesting.... Might have to swallow some mojo down the wrong way. Fuck this shit in the eye socket. Every sentence made me want to stamp on cute baby animals so I could hate myself forever.

Might even look that bad, cradling our 'Stangs and Teles in tacky rayon Hawaiian shirts.
