A little while ago, in passing conversation mike requested I scan an original review of the Jagstang... so here it is.
I hope its of decent enough quality for you to read. Clicking on the image may improve things depending on your screen size / resolution etc.

I've also added a 3 other pages from my clippings collection relating the JS.

generally enjoyable review though when he called kurt delicate and compact i was a little wtf but i get what they were trying to do.

also i dont think the jagstang looks that weird, i actually like the shape.

Interesting read. I never really cared for Jag-Stangs but they've kind of grown on me over the last year.

I use 9s with a 24" scale and I've never found the tone particularly 'ukulele-like' (and I do play a ukulele). Interesting review though.

I don't understand how replacing the mustang bridge with a tom would improve the tone.

I thought reviews in guitar mags always tried to sell you the thing. That Jagstang review is pretty balanced. I can see why everyone mods the fuck outta them!

Two ways of looking at it;
1/ Like upgrading a Strat sustain block (on tremolo) the extra mass helps sustain.
2/ There is more physical connection with the body, as you know the Mustang bridge only connects on the two pivot points, the TOM screws in solidly which theoretically will help the guitar resonate better/improve sustain.

Doesn't it just look a different shape because Kurt was left-handed but Peter Buck is playing it right-handed?

I think it would be a cool project to try to create a Jag-stang "as Kurt intended" and make all the changes that never were implemented.

main problemn in jag-stang is four things.

- Wood choice and pickup at bridge.
* Basswood dont fit the shape of jag-stang, the bridge pickup sounds dull and bassy.
neck pickup sound is ok. itÂ´s should be Ash/Poplar/Alder if Alder too expensive go Poplar like First mustangÂ´s.

- Curves
*Play sit and watch your arm start hurts, even les paul is more confortable

- Make it in tune
* DonÂ´t come whit guide how setup bridge, Apart Mad-Mike Bridge Setup i donÂ´t know other way that sh!t stay in tune.
Neck tuners is kinda instable too i changed mine to Schaller M6 Lock (same Fender use on Premium American Line)

- Hum
* Original come whit gigantic Hum.

When RobertOG did replica of shape body to me He fixed all things i hate on jag-stang

so i dare say my surf stang sounds zillion better, Sound is full of life, cristal clean.

And yes. Jag-stang donÂ´t follow what kurt wanted

Straight bridge pickup, Seymour duncan JB at bridge, Jaguar bridge ( can see scratchs going see an Jaguar/Jazzmaster tremolo set)

nah nah kurts original blue one is definately a different shape to ours, especially the lower cutaway and butt. i would love to get a hi res of that peter buck pic.

the reissues are based on kurts fiesta red jag-stang, which is has some slight differences in the lower cutaway - the reissues don't nail it exactly either.

You've got that right. That's all that I needed to add to my PayPal for my next purchase. They had grown on me but not as much as the Schecter She Devil had.
