i'm really starting to need something to help fill out the sound in the band and struggling with just a 1x12 open back combo. would getting a closed back extension cabinet help me out, give me better lows and fill the sound more? band practise revealed a world of toppy madness and no balls last night. it's never consistent.

I would say that a closed back extension cab will give you more bass and focused sound for sure.
I played through an open and closed back set up with my old Rockerverb once at practice, and it sounded bloody amazing! But that amp never lacked balls whatever cab I put it through.
I guess that the inherent properties of your amp will still be the main driver for how it sounds.
I personally wouldn't choose a Fender amp for a one guitar band for that very reason. I used to play in a 3 piece with a 1x12 Marshall combo, and that worked really well for us.

i know you can get those orange 1X12 cabs fairly cheap, thought of getting that if a little odd looking with a tweed combo on top.

Don't think you're going to get more oompf with another 1x12". A closed back 2x12" will give you the thump you're after though, although that's sort of what the bass player should be doing...

i've never know a bass player that doesn't like to play that loud. i find he needs to turn up more.

wish i still had my 2x12 bass cab

I know the wattage is significantly different but I just want a general character comparison. Quiet cleans between the 2 / and then dirts. etc How do you find they respond in general ?

im with mike on this.
a closed back 2x12 will probly get your rocks off better than anything else.
im suprised that a single 12 open back leaves you wanting more.
i have usually always been fine with an open back 12 even when i was in a 3 peice without a bass player i could usually dial in some good low end.

It looks lame as fuck i agree, but you haven't seen the ugly bastard playing the thing. Looks aren't my strong point in life. I'll not have the chance to crank it until next week, I'll try it through a cab as well. I doubt another 1x12 will make a huge difference mind.

I've got a classic 30 and considering replacing it with the dual terror... don't suppose there is anyway you could do a comparison video or sound clip ? or short written review. I could do a comparison video thingy, but the classic 30 is loud as balls, anything past one and my spare room shakes. I'll see what I can do. To be honest if you have a Classic you could compare the real sound to the plethora of TT clips on youtube etc.

and don't get me wrong. . . it may sound amazing (and likely does). maybe it looks worse cos the peavy is sandwiched between the orange stuff. just make it look very unattractive, but then again, some of the best sounds come that way. i was in a bad mood this morning, so forgive my snottiness.

Wait! I just thought of the only thing better than that. Having buttsecks in front of the 1x15" cab and having your SACK flap in the wind!

Think the guy in the extention cab thread has got the same problem I have.
I'm into town next week and try some amps. wish I still had mg100 combo, that had quite a bit of low end and wasn't to bad sounding.

Yeh, No worries dude... I can hear it all in my head I just want some kind of confirmation. I've never played an Orange but I think it'd be ideal for me. My shop that I work in will be getting them shortly into the new year so I'll be able to test them properly then. The classic 30 sounds too kind for me... but I rarely get it loud enough to hear its true potential. The times I have I've been pretty impressed. A general vague over view would be more than enough.

I've been going through this on and off for about 3 years Rob. I found putting a Combo in the corner of the room (against the wall literally) helps some projection but.. like Mike said in the other thread, you just cannot substitute a 4x12.
I put my Marshall through my 4x12 to see how different it would be and to be honest it was a different amp. Its all a compromise with transportation i suppose, personally our car wont carry a 4x12 so i am lumbered with lack of low end. Does your band have a van? That's the only way i get around it in Master Charger.
