Deluxe Memory Boy?

Post by Yarko »

I've been planing to puchase a memory boy for some time, but after reading into the new ehx effects line, i am not sure. i might wait for pricing on this and then decide. it seems to cost around 180. anyone tried it? the only extra feature of this i might want is a looper.

I don't think the Deluxe Memory Boy is out yet.

Do want deluxe memory boy, especially if it only costa 180. It's about a third of the price of it's competitors.
Plus the exp mode switch looks a lot like the hogs, maybe an xo hog in the works?

definitely hold out for the Deluxe Memory Boy if you can. or hell get both.

what i don't understand is this whole, "i hope such and such big-box EHX pedal becomes an XO." like the desperate clamoring for a HOG or Poly-chorus XO pedal. i just don't get that...

well, i got a memory boy today and I say meh. i'll return it for a big muff or a blues driver on monday. i guess I just don't like delay pedals. yeah, the self-oscillation is cool but that's about the only thing i like about it. i did get it to work as an echo (which i preffer to a delay) with only one speed. playing around with it was nice, but I can play around with a space echo if I save up enough. I was expecting it to be more of an echo than a vibrato. my mistake. but if you're into that kind of thing, go for it. it just doesn't fit with what i play.

i did freak out when it self oscillated on me by accident. stomped the shit out of that little box.

well, this thread was started because i was wondering if anyone knew anything about the deluxe memory boy.

i realized i don't like delay AFTER i bought this. i tried it out in the store and thought it would be fun to have and yes, i did have this pedal for one day, but i spent at least 4 hours toying around with it at home. and i'm not canadian. i just live here.

i didn't notice any volume increase at all when playing through my twin reverb. the power supply that is bundled with the memory boy is pretty good, allowed good self oscillation. the feedback from shortscale about this pedal certainly peeked my interest.

i will probably get the blues driver. if i choose to go for a big muff, i would get the tone wicker one. i demoed the memory boy on a shitty line 6 modeling amp at some no-name guitar store. the big ones didn't have the memory boy.

do you think that the feedback from shortscaledotorg unduly piqued or colored yr interest in either a negative or positive way?

I'm sure if you search for "memory boy" you will come up with several discussions and reviews of the pedal. There is also a thread about the deluxe memory boy that was started when the first bits of information surfaced.
Also, Internet harder. Every time I read the word "teh" it caused me to shudder, silly Canadians

i really am starting to think that you might be slightly unhinged.

(or something...) not bad but not something to write home to mummykins about either. at worst it would be like the XO Clone Theory. (or something...) basically what i am trying to say is that i don't think you could get all that EHX-ness into an XO & it be worth it. gonna lose a lot of mojo. i just can't see it being pulled off to the point where people go apeshit about it.

at this point i don't think EHX even needs to come out w/ any neu pedals for a while. they can just chill & rest on their laurels and shit. i mean, personally, i want to see an EHX tuner pedal but that's about it. maybe an EHX multi-FX. something like that. (okay maybe an EHX XO Microsynth...but not really...) ((also i think it would be funny-ironic if EHX made a "noise" pedal. i'd buy that quickfast !!!))
The reason for wanting XO pedals is simply a question of pedal board space and updated features. I bought the XO version of The Worm for this exact reason. I had the gearmandude do a shootout between the old monster size and the new XO versions. The XO was true bypass (no annoying hiss) and about 1/4 the size of the original. They recently moved the DMM to a smaller box as well. The vibe of the old monster pedals is cool, but not if I have to buy a completely new pedalboard to house them. Now some of the XO pedals are not the same as the originals or modified, so I can see that as a reason not to switch. If they can get the Polychorus into an XO box with true bypass, I would totally love that. I don't want them to change it circuitry-wise, just put into a smaller box so I have room for my other stuff.

I also hope they don't sit on their laurels. Too many companies (Fender, Gibson, etc) sit around basking the glory of their former days and get really stale. The effects pedal market is very competitive right now and if you sit out too long, people will go somewhere else. EHX is actually positioning themselves well against their competitors right now and I hope will keep updating their old stuff while coming out with cool new stuff.

Here here.

I don't think any pedal companies should rest on there laurels.

A) It's bad for business..
B) When one company brings the heat, the others respond in kind and up their game too. More new pedals = more new noise (hopefully).

i agree. i was just wondering-out-loud if EHX going to become over-extended?

do you want to qualify that or is that merely a cheapshot. i am not even really sure if i stepped on yr toes or not before if it is the latter. i don't even see how one could read into me being "slightly unhinged" by that question. gear forum discussions--here and elsewhere--influence whether i buy stuff or not. i was asking if that was the case for him as well. what are your thought re: teh Deluxe Memory Boy? Reece...
your posts read like the ramblings of a slightly insane man.
like this horrible stream of consciousness mess and i can't tell if it's all tongue in cheek or that is really how you are.

i don'tz--own--teh delux memry boy so i can't say anything about it. Less Cunning...
