Some project considerations

Post by wilrecar77 »

I have had the idea of converting my Ibanez proline 1770 (edge tremolo) into a hardtail guitar for a while now, but since i like both tremolo and hardtail guitars i just left it and dealt with it. Since i got the Xaviere jt-40, i wont have anything to lose by converting it.
All i have come up with that i need to do is:
Fill in routed trem cavities (not hard)
Get non-TOM hardtail bridge (maybe not hard)
Get string-through ferrule set (for the NIGELZ SUSTAIN)

My question is, has anyone here attempted this with success, and any good/bad experiences with a sub-130$(how much edge trems are going for on ebay)
hardtail bridge and ferrule set. I have looked at the GFS bridges and i like them, but i haven't seen much about their quality (not that im doubting it, im just wondering).

EDIT: looks like most hardtail bridge assemblies don't break the 70$ mark (which is really cool).

I've bought a TOM, strat trem, tele bridge and two sets of tuners from GFS and not had a problem with any of them. It's all made by different manufacturers in asian countries anyway, probably the same type of stuff used on Squiers, Mexican/Japanese Fenders and Epiphones.

Thanks, that was all i needed to go ahead and make GFS part of the checklist.
One of my friends, (the one who freehand sharpied my acoustic in the pics thread), insisted that i do a refin and let him do some art on it.
I said yes of course, so this project is starting to look increasingly long and tedious. (full refinish). Thats ok though, it will be worth it.
I've seen how many refin questions have been posted in this forum, so i'm just keeping this up now for random progress updates.

Looks great icey! i love the way ferrules make a hardtail look.
Since my local craigslist isnt really too great (asheville NC), it looks like it will be hard to sell the edge and g2 here.
If i don't get any replies in the next 3-4 days, i'll put up either the g2 or edge for trade for a hardtail bridge in the classifieds.

small update, just ordered the topmount squier 51 bridge. it will work for now, when i eventually refinish it i will just drill string holes in the bottom of the bridge to make it string through.
