hollow body bass
I see some bass slapping in my future and I really hate the weight and overall feel of most solid body guitars. Any recommendations for a nice light weight semi hollow bass with a tiny neck for my small childlike hands?
Hands up, Who Wants to Die?

Eastwoods have a good line of short scale basses. The Classic 4 has f-holes, and I haven't plugged one in, but they look awesome in person.
30.5" scale
Cost- :$659

Not Hollow Bodies but you should definitely consider these:

I own this baby, Eastwood Airline Map, with the body shaped like the USA. Not too heavy, shortscale, but what I love about it the most is the 3-way switch controls, for 3 distinct sounds from deep bassy to mid, then a thin trebly sound. I love its versatility and it's seafoam green with matching neck!
30.5" scale / Chambered body
Cost- um... $1029.00 (Find it on ebay for $800)

Fender Mustang Bass (Comp Stripe to Left)
I love this bass, it's super lightweight, is gorgeous, and has a unique trebly sound (Talking Head's "Psycho Killer")! You won't get a deep bass sound from it like you would with a P-Bass. Mustang bass is definitely one for the small handed and proud Fender collector.
Cost- $700+
Fender Musicmaster Bass
I own a Squier Vista Series, but I definitely want to own a Fender Musicmaster bass... but if the sound is anything like the Squier Vista series, keep the body but get yourself a new pickup.
Cost- $700+
Also, check out the Univox High Flyer bass. I can't find a decent picture, but the one that St. Jimmy gave me is hella loud. Thin neck, a surprisingly really light body, and it looks awesome too!

Ibanez makes a decent Hollowbody bass, not super expensive either, like $4-500. There's also the Hofner viola bass in a couple different reissues that range from $350 or so to over $1000. Epiphone and some other companies make copies of it.
Personally, I really like the sound from my vista series Squier Musicmaster. It's a got a nice punch to it, although it's low end is lacking somewhat. It still gives a nice fat sound. The difference between the Fender and Squier pickups are the fender has a strat single coil, while the squier's is based on the '51 p-bass pickup.

my baby, the epiphone rivoli II RI. lightweight , shortscale, thin-ish neck. thunderous lows from the neck pu, nice fender style growl from the bridge pu. super low action. i bought this one brand spankin' new (it still smelled like glue!) about ten years ago for $450-500 i think. she's pretty much the love of my life.

That's pretty hot. I've never seen that bass before, they aren't still making them are they?omari wrote:my baby, the epiphone rivoli II RI. lightweight , shortscale, thin-ish neck. thunderous lows from the neck pu, nice fender style growl from the bridge pu. super low action. i bought this one brand spankin' new (it still smelled like glue!) about ten years ago for $450-500 i think. she's pretty much the love of my life.

no they don't make 'em anymore. the single pickup version is more common, they pop up on ebay from time to time. the original epi and gibson versions were really popular in the 60's so there's lots of those floating around as well.nwordjim wrote:That's pretty hot. the ex girlfriend has an Ibanez artcore hollowbody bass
i fucking love it.
shame they only come in poo brown now

from what i recall she paid $525 CDN for it when our dollar was kinda crap (.80 american)
but first thing i'd do is upgrade the tuning pegs, as they are pretty cheap. (one broke from being allegidly knowcked of a stand, by her now currant boyfriend)
the pup's sound amazing, and the volume and tone pots are spot on (500K i believe, i checked them when she bought it.)
edit:
found an old FB photo of it.

i fucking love it.
