Mex Jag HH

Post by othomas2 »

Well, first time I had the chance to play one yesterday.

Damn it's a great guitar. What I love most about it is the unique circuitry... makes for a really, really versatile instrument.

The usual on/off switching as well as the coil splitable, blend rollers can achieve most tones you could ever wish for.... I was suitably impressed !! Kinda makes me want one.

I'm still not too keen on the flatter radius although I can see the benefits. The neck & fret finish seems to be a little poor in comparison to the jap jags but hey with a little sand paper and t-cut it could be really good.

If I was to buy again from the get go I would definitely get one of these ...

Another two thumbs up to Fender !! :D

I have the CP Special which is the single coil version. It's a really great solid guitar and I find the radius and pickups lend it to faster lead playing and coping with higher gain levels much better - plus the tuneomatic bridge is rock solid. I love the guitar so much so that even when I bought my '66 I couldn't bear to sell it, so I have both, which is pretty new ground for me.

Fit and Finish were perfect on mine but I think they can be a bit variable.

I liked boht the CPs quite a bit. wish I had kept one or the other. My only real gripe with the CP was that the humbuckers were too muddy for me and the split-to-single-coil sound was pretty weak.

Both could have been fixed by just dropping some decent humbuckers in?

I'm noticing similar to our oul' pal...

I find I'm playing rolled all the way to single coil and finding virtually zero flexibility in the volume knob...

I was thinking about putting a set of humbucker sized P90's in there... then I have two spare roller pots to play with

Would a decent set of reasonably high output 'buckers be worth exploring too?

Yeah, and you should also fix the 50K roller pot - replace it with 1meg one.

Fender are muppets, they left teh 1meg, 50K combo from the rhythm circuit (the 50K tone pot brings the darkness) in instead of putting two 1megs in there.

Cheers Mike...

Shortscale to the rescue again.

I still think it's a well built guitar and probably would buy again. One of the attraction of it in the first place was it seemed to have addressed most of the traditional problems with Jaguars.

I guess it's "Mo' Guitars, Mo' Problems"

Yours sincerely,

I was totally sold on the CP Jag HH but stumbled upon an AVRI Jag for a better price. I played some newer 2009 ones and the neck felt thinner at the nut than ones from 2008. I loved the White -red tort combo. I would still like to get one, but my fancy has shifted more in the Squier Supersonic direction for now. I agree the pickups seem a bit muddy, but the rolling coil tap was a cool idea. Nice to see Fender trying a new idea.

Yeah mine is pretty cool. I got the white one

I'm still gonna put some black P-Rails or something in there

Maybe some mustang switches instead of the spin o splits too
