I has a Super-Sonic. Finally.

My friend actually started working at that guitar center right after you bought that guitar. I went to see him while he was working a couple weeks ago. They had a pretty cool looking vintage mustang there but they wanted entirely too much money for it. It had been routed for a humbucker, refinished, and the pickguard was trashed and it had strat knobs and knock off tuners. I think they wanted like $1,000 for it. But still between that mustang and this supersonic that you bought, the durham guitar center gets way cooler stuff than the raleigh guitar center that is closer to me.
It looks like the control plate kinda hangs over the edge of the contour here? Is that right? I'm trying to figure out positioning of mine but I don't like the hanging.tomin8r wrote:Do an Omar?
Fucking contours I hate em.

i think you're mistaking the person's knee outline for the begining of the contour

Yes yes yes. I know. I don't like the pickguard. I'm doing it differently. I like the white guard, when I have the new guard made I'm gonna go with white, and reshape it a bit because I don't want it extending down to cover the old control routes. Still sorting this.
I can assure you moving the control plate to the bottom side makes it hang a bit over the contour. I have one in my bedroom right now and I'm trying to get the placement right on this.

Yeah I think that you have to bend the end of the control plate over the contour...unless you shift it a whole lot forward, but then the first know would be well under the pickup.Pens wrote:I can assure you moving the control plate to the bottom side makes it hang a bit over the contour. Dude. Why the hell didn't I think of this.Thom wrote:Yeah I think that you have to bend the end of the control plate over the contour...unless you shift it a whole lot forward, but then the first know would be well under the pickup.Pens wrote:I can assure you moving the control plate to the bottom side makes it hang a bit over the contour. Yeah, I looked at moving it forward more but I'd have to cut the pickguard to get it up there, meh.
I like this idea, I'll drill and screw down the other end then bend the bottom tip down to follow the contour. It's really just the last half inch.

Yeah, there's a few GCs out here in the area, but the one in Bridgeton which is further from me than the others has some of the coolest used shit of any of them.Billy3000 wrote:My friend actually started working at that guitar center right after you bought that guitar. I probably will be doing this, but I'm not gonna go through all of that until I finish the paint job on my Peavey, as that was my "learning" guitar at filling routes on a guitar.hotrodperlmutter wrote:i think you should definitely fill the route, and make it a truely lefthanded guitar.
and i'm not sure cyclones were out in ATDI's hay-day.
It's gonna be a longish process as I just want this guitar functional ASAP. Once I moved the strap button last night to the upper horn like it ought to be, it feels fucking great. Like a Mustang almost.
Once I have this guitar working, it can take the place of my Jag for a bit while I have that routed for a bridge humbucker, then have a new pickguard made for that. I am waiting for Rob OG to get settled and then asking him to do that work, possibly. Once I have the Jag back, I can fuck with this one some more.
This will be a work in progress.
Also, I cannot believe how goddamn thick the paint is on this thing. Like 2 mm thick on the body. WTF!?

My friend from that store just texted me today, somebody is trying to sell a '64 jazzmaster for $1200... if it's all original legit I might actually think about it. I'd have to sell a couple guitars to get it though!Pens wrote:Yeah, there's a few GCs out here in the area, but the one in Bridgeton which is further from me than the others has some of the coolest used shit of any of them.Billy3000 wrote:My friend actually started working at that guitar center right after you bought that guitar. super-sick, dude. so happy you finally got it!Pens wrote:I HAVE IT NOW.
There is a decent gash in the paint, but the wood underneath is fine. Honestly, considering what I'm about to do to this guitar, it doesn't even fucking matter.
This guitar is about to get leftified
When I'm done I'll need a new pickguard, I'm drilling out the other side to move the controls to the proper place, I'm removing the pup selector and the neck pickup (which will be going into another project guitar), and I'll just have the volume knobs though I'm still not sure how I want to configure the second knob. I might take a look at how Peavey did the T60 and do some sort of series/parallel blend if I can with the stock bridge pup, still undetermined on that part so far. I'm also moving that stupid fucking strap button to the top horn where it ought to be.
The neck on this thing plays so fucking great too, it feels a bit like my Jag but more I suppose like Amy's 65 RI Stang did.
God. I just finished getting it set up, I kept the controls as is right now and removed the knobs so I wouldn't hit them. I have moved the strap button and now it hangs balanced from the strap.
Holy fuck. This is almost my new favorite guitar. Favorite by feel, for certain, I just have to finish adjusting it and get the right strings on it, I just threw on a set I had laying around to try it out. Once i have that and the intonation set exact, it will be fucking amazing.
I actually like the stock bridge pickup.
Fuck. I love it. It's so comfortable.
