"vox super twin 70's" is this a good buy?

Post by Dave »

Gentlemans dibs apply if so ;) Thelisting is a bit vague really about the amp and I can't find anything specifically about a 'Vox Super Twin' online ...there was an AC30 Super Twin apparently?

So can anyone tell me if this is worth dropping 70 quid on and replacing the speakers?

ebay linkage

I really don't know enough about good valve amps so any advice apreciated.

Nice but well out of my current price range! Really looking for something valve for home and dirt cheap. Obviously something dirt cheap and valve for practice would be nice too but money is tight.

Broken, the rubber's perished. So you're getting a cabinet WITHOUT a badge (??) and a 70's SS amp for £70? Hmm.

Is >>this Marshall Master Lead combo<< any better? May jump up in price at the last moment but currently £41.

I'd probably buy that amp if I didn't need to prioritise cash to immediate valve needs. Is that SS amp worth 70 quid without speakers? Maybe someone in the UK could make good on it.

where would you even find 5" speakers that are good quality?

(I'll google it, I'm jus' saying that is so odd)

It looks like a cool amp to take upon, even if you just manage to take the speakers out and use it as a head, that's what i'd do. I thought it was a head at first. All that extra room should be covered in reverb tanks. I don't know the market for these amps, but it sounds like it's a high price, unless they're like m@j@ rare or something.

do not want $200 dollar shipping to america.

Exactly. I'd just get an 8" or 10" speaker, build a small "cab" for it, and use what is there as a head.

Whats your budget Black Cat? If you like VOX and want valves look for a AC4TV. There are plenty good valve amps available on a budget. The Epi Jnr, fender champ and the Bugera v5 are good budget all valve amps for home use. I played them all recently.

As for VOX solid states, I had on in the early 90s and it was really good.

I also have a VOX AD15vt fr sale if you are interested

Haha thanks bud but really looking for a full valve-grunter of an amp for home. As for budget it needs to be way sub 200 pounds fo me to jump on it at the moment. Looking out for one of those perfect little finds if you know what I mean. I'd stretch to 250 for a Fender Musicman Bass however and whore my self down the local docks to cover it. I missed out on the 165 quid Orange AD5's listed here a while back and sorta wish I'd gone for that - would be great for home recording and demo vids for youtube. That's my main usage and priority right now.

I just bought a Laney VC15 which is very sweet sounding (I got the limited edition old englih white one) and I think you can pick some of them up for around the money you are looking at. I'm planning on doing a demo soon. Take a look around and try a few out. There are definitely a lot out there but it depends on the type of sound you are after though. Don't disount any of those listed though, especially the bugera

yeah super twins are 2x5" ss. they're crap. they sound ok, but really shit quality (i've played 2 of them - 1 at my local vintage shop and 1 at a vintage vox dealer guys house in CA). the one locally i played was about to shit the speakers out, and the one in cali had been all redone and souped up so to speak.

you'd be better off buying a pathfinder from nowadays. much better sound, much better reliability, and cheaper. but you already said you're looking for tubes. so that negates anything i've suggested in this here post.
