I really want a Squier 51.

Talk about all other types of guitars. Jazzmasters and basses go here!

I really want a Squier 51.

Post by ekwatts »

To my eternal shame, I really missed the boat with them. I really, really, really, really wanted one, but I was so criminally broke that even when I spied one at £80 at a shop in Manchester, I just couldn't scrape the bones together for it. They hardly ever turn up (unmodified) on eBay, too.

There's no real point to this thread, other than to say sorry to myself.

Without wanting to stamp out a potential deal here, the neck is one of the best bits on a '51. It's a big clubby thing that somehow isn't unwieldy (that's a double negative. Does that make the neck "wieldy?" What does that mean?). You have to fight it a bit, but it's pretty comfortable despite that.

wieldy |ˈwēldē|
adjective ( wieldier, wieldiest)
easily controlled or handled : the beefy Bentley is far from wieldy.
ORIGIN late 16th cent.: back-formation from unwieldy .
cogito ergo sum...thing or other...

Which shop, I'm in Manchester next week ;)

Go for it, if it is what you are after you will sure be able to make the cash up afterwards.

the one i had i sold to ends and was actually an indonesian rosewood tele neck. was really nice, but alas, he needed it more than i.

not sure there's much of a deal to stamp out, same offer goes to anyone else if watts doesn't want it. pm if there's any interest.

Do Tele necks fit the 51? I thought they took strat neck heels, making the 51 neck unique?

Hmm.

It's a square heel. It is just a tele neck.

there's a shop down the street from me with a mess of them for 150 a pop. including the rarer blonde type. funny, considering they were going for $99 when production ended and you can pick them up for 70-100 all day on craigslist.

I had one in blk/wht and off to Sweden it went when I couldn't bear to modifiy it. It was bone stock and I doubled what I paid for it in addition the buyer footed the shipping. One note is to meet size requirements tyhe necks MUST be removed when using USPS and the buyer must be made aware that there is likely "customs duties" due on their end.
