Cheers dude, it really has been a bit of a struggle. It's not totally silent, but only slightly worse than my Jazzmaster which has served me well live and on record.

It's all strung up, I'm waiting a day for the tension to level out before I give it proper attention.

Coolio. Is it possible to setup without any buzz btw?

Although it could of be buzzing because of how the neck was :?

That's the general idea, but it's always a trade off between lowest possible action and fretbuzz: depends how much of either you'll put up with.

I can live with a bit of buzz (which is generally not noticeable when plugged in) for the sake of a low enough action, I'll make it as CLEAN 'N EEZY as I can.

Doog wrote:I think I've sorted it! I was reading people with grounding problems having buzz when touching the polepieces: thread here.

So basically, I changed around the wires on both pickups (as not to put them out of phase)- no problems with touching the polepieces, and reduced noise overall, including the noise you get when both pickups are turned off.

Success, I think? I guess it's possible a lot of CIJ Jags have been wired the wrong way, or the wires were the wrong colour? Who knows, I'd be interested in any technical thoughts on this.
Cool. Maybe my Jags were wired right then, based on that. The 'phase' thing was what i was thinking when i asked if it was quiet with both pups on because that position should be hum cancelling but kind of dismissed it as it is'nt a grounding issue.
I'd also like to hear other peoples thoughts on this.

I've read so much conflicting information about the whole "touch metal > buzz stops" thing being just how the guitar is... or isn't. RAGHH, I really want to sort this out, if only for the feeling of beating it. And making Noirie pay me more, obviously.
Neither of them will harm, you'll be creating a Faraday cage around the pickups which is a good thing.
nice job, doog, but i'd still do this ^ , tbh.

Noirie asked for an viddemo, because he's a cheeky sod and can't wait ONE DAY to find out if I've broken his guitar or not.. so I threw together this piece of crap:

Check out the lack of noise at 1:15! There's no noise gate or anything on this recording, although it's all "pedalboard> Boss amp sim".

It's now got no rhythm circuit (kept the pots in for the cosmetics), a Lace Sensor of some description and is strung up with 12-54s. Still needs to be totally setup, but that's my plan for tonight.

Haha. That lace sensor sounds fucking amazing, clean or dirty.
its a lace sensor gold btw. From the chrome dome set, so its wound hotter than usual. Sort of like a 1/4 for Jag.

Again thanks for sorting it out for me. Finally i can enjoy playing it :D

That noise happens on most Gibsons... next time you try one tap anything metal and it'll do the same. With some amps its more apparent than others. Not sure what it is but I don't think it's anything to worry about...

The point is it was a lot more noisy than that.

I rather liked that actually, anymore? The lace sensor and the Dist+ sound like a great combo, nice and crunchy.
Can't wait to run it through my mine ((rawk))

Nice guitar. Is that some kind of mod on the tailpiece to increase the string break angle?

It's a Buzzstop, apparently made by Whizzo, which is a ridiculous name. I've got one on my Jazzmaster, handy little device.
