Dexlue Reverb RI Speaker Swap...suggestsions?

Post by lank81 »

Hi All,
I'm looking to swap out my DRRI Speaker as I feel its a bit harsh and brittle at times. I've been looking at getting a weber replacement as they sound good, have a good reputation, and are a decent price. I was looking at the 12" 30 watt as I'm trying to go for that trebly "indie" sound but also can play some 60s rock style. Other than the Weber do you guys have any other suggestions? Let me know.

Thanks for the help!

have you given your speaker a chance to break in?
I would have given up already if it wasn't for the impending revolution!

Get a Canabis Rex.

Nah, just kidding. The Weber Vintage Series falls into the range you seem to be angling for. I've had nothing but positive experiences with the one I installed (a 12F125, if memory serves correct) into an old Harmony amp that I've since, rather regrettably sold. It really teased the gritty 60's out of that amp.

I'd say there is at least 50-75 hours in to the amp so far and I'm still getting some harshness / brittleness. I plan on replacing the stock speaker and tubes as those are most of the suggestions for curing the downfalls of the 65 RI.

i should've mentioned that it's typically better to swap out tubes before you mess with the speakers. crappy speakers can sound okay with good tubes but crappy tubes will sound bad almost no matter what speakers you're using. start with the pre-amp cause they're the easiest, cheapest, and can make a big difference.

i have experienced and heard it both ways- many say the opposite-- so i will start w the spkr-- tubes are a given down the road-- one expense at a time ya know
