CV Duo Sonic to Bronco conversion

This idea did not exactly work, however it may be useful for others and i feel it fits in the projects section best

So i've had this idea brewing for a to convert my Classic Vibe Duo Sonic into a Bronco. Thinking it would be a simple pickguard swap i thought it would be a piece of cake. I had also planned to add a Toronado bridge as it matches the bronco's shape. Discussing it with hotrod, he reminded me that the bronco has an offset body. I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking:

here is the final result that i came across

i also tinted the neck a bit

Seeing it with the original finish below it also seems like the bridges do not line up, likely because of the pickguard sample i used and seeing as they have the same scale length thats probably the case

the bridge is also out of line a bit but again im sure thats due to the skewed pickguard sample

And here is an example of how the bodies differ

the bronco's offset body compared to the duo's non offset body, also a bit skewed but you get the idea

I think the bridges don't line up because the CV Duo uses a conversion neck while the Bronco is a true 24" scale. The CV duo's body has the bridge placed in the correct place for a 25.5" neck but uses a 24" neck that's been adjusted to work on a 25.5" body.

Just to get thongs straight

I can use the cv duo neck on a 25.5" guitar and make it a 24" scale?
I can also use any 25.5" scale neck on the cv duo body?
I cannot use a regular 24" scale neck on the cv duo body?

All three are true. However, if you wanted to use a regular 24" scale neck on the CV Duo, you could make it work if you moved the bridge closer to the neck.

If anyone has a 22.5" conversion neck floating around I could possibly be talked into giving up my duo's 24" conversion neck...

e: I too had been taken with the thought of a bronco-style pickguard on my duo. Dang Mustang builder.

You could also use a 25.5"-to-baritone conversion neck on a duo, come to think of it.

haha, he said "Just to get thongs straight"

anyhow, i once put a 70's strat neck on a RI duo body and while it tuned up okay i believe there was a slight gap in the neck pocket.

yeah, you can't just switch the guards out. if for some reason you really wanted to turn your CV Duo into a bronco, it would probably be best to just get a duo sonic guard in white and then route it for a bronco trem. however if you have a bronco trem this would be stupid, as you have pretty much the hardest to obtain part of a bronco, just get the rest of the guitar and make a proper bronco. it would probably cost you about as much as a CV duo.

Wait so the 22.5 inch necks were for the old-school shortscales. Are there 22.5 conversion necks out there that'd work with the CV Duo?

Thinking about a having a bronco fabricated for this guitar but what with it being a full scal body and wantig a toronado bridge on it i'm more than sure that all of the major pickguard makers would mess it up.
Might ask robert if he'd be up for it though since he has one on hand to measure from...

yes. the 90s duo sonic neck was roughly 22.5". the CV duo and the 90s duo are of the same "family" so to speak and share a lot of design elements. both seem to have been designed with a 25.5" neck in mind but used conversion necks instead.
