I'm considering a jazz bass project, either full parts or modding something (probably japanese). I could do with some inspiration pics. My problem is that I love a lot of the vintage looking stuff, I definitely cant afford to buy one (about $10k for a 60s Jazz Bass from a dealer) and having a new one that has the appeal of the vintage ones. I don't want to get into all the relicing nonsense so I'm looking for a balance between vintage and new I guess. I suppose maybe the sort of thing the custom shop call NOS. One problem I have is while I love the white/tort look, nice looking modern tort is near impossible to find and the old stuff very expensive.
Here are a couple of pics I like to get started.

I
might be able to stretch to a Ric. I absoluetly love them but I think I'll still want a jazz or similar, and although I would prefer a Ric, a jazz would be more satisfying. The jazz bass should work out to be a bit more versatile for what I want to play. So pics of other nice basses wouldn't go amiss. I'd slightly consider a P or something else, but I don't want to go shortscale on this one.
