Germanium Muff Coming?

That Foxey Lady Ram's head is one of my favourite muffs

The Axis/Foxey Lady isn't a Muff, it's more like a Fuzzrite. One just sold on ebay for $900, which is insane

There's also a bunch of weird OEM muffs like the Marveltone, Lyle, Wabash all built by EHX and as well as the Shin-ei-built Sekova muff (none of which I have unfortunatley).

J Mascis bought one of those Wabash labeled muffs on eBay. I was bidding/watching it and then I trolled through the winning bidder's other purchases, I'm sure it was him.

The Big Muff besides the Fuzz Face and Ibanez Tubescreamer is one of the most copied effects.

I copy it daily

If you count the number of pedals that just use the Muff tone control, then there's gazillions.

I don't really like the Muff tone control. I always end up making it flat.

70% of the dial has always seemed WAAAAY too bright on the Muffs I've used (NYC, XO LMB)- I never have it up more than 9'oclock. Above that and you're just losing all the body and are replacing it with nasty thin top end.

But; personal taste, I guess.

That is my experience also. Use a bridge pickup, keep it low and compensate with volume.

It goes without saying, I'll buy the Ge muff as soon as it hits stores. So will Kit I imagine. He's as obsessed as me!

I think they're a cool pedal to collect. There are so many flavours and whilst on the face of it sometimes the component changes are subtle, they can sound wildly different.

I make Green Muffs generally but I have designed an IC Muff layout and I also want to start making Ram's Head versions aswell as I love the sound of those.

Yeah the IC is one of my favs, mines dated 78 (well at least the pots are) its a V5. Great pedal and you're 100% correct, they all vary somewhat.

I think it's a great design. There are Overdrivey Muffs, Distortiony Muffs, Fuzzy Muffs, Smooth Muffs, Rough Muffs.

Plus is eminently tweakable. It's the muse of many a boutique builder (Pete Cornish, Skreddy, Hoof) for good reason.

Yep, all mine except the vintage ones (and a couple new ones) are heavily modified. Not weird mods, I've just voiced them,all differently, to my liking/needs.

I have tons of schematics I've drawn for various new versions of the big muff, its my favorite effect by far.

Definitely personal taste, and also depends on pickups, amps. I have rather dark sounding guitars, at 9 everything would sound like mud for me.

And as for the Germanium transistors, rumor has it that they recently bought a TON of germanium resistors.
