Fender '62 Reissue Strat
A simple question - is it worth it money-wise? Has anybody owned one of these? How do they feel? How's craftmanship?
Local dude sells one in Surf Green for about $1500 with OHSC, trem arm, bridge cover, a strap and in good condition (some dents and scratches but not much). I'm going to go and give it a play this weekend.
Good deal or no? Let me know what you think.

Yeah, I've checked the prices in USA stores online, but it's different here in Ukraine - everything is like $250 moreHaze wrote:they're $1600 new, so no i wouldn't say a used one is good for 100 less. Unless its BRAND NEW and you were going to buy one anyways.

I will still probably go and try it. Maybe it will hypnotize me.

the 62RI's come with the optional 5 way switch to replace it with. and if it's american, i doubt the retail is $1600. surf green fucking rules. if you have that kind of jack, i'd get it. you won't find another one like it anytime soon.blacktaxi wrote:Yeah, I've checked the prices in USA stores online, but it's different here in Ukraine - everything is like $250 moreWell I guess you're right. I probably should go for a jap RI, the 3-way switch is not exactly what I'm after. But it's really hard to find anything different than black or sunburst over here. Sucks balls.

This is what you have to think about really - is it a good deal where you are?blacktaxi wrote:On the other note, the exact same guitar is marked at about $2486 in local store. It's not even funny.
Guys in the US might say that it's not, but Fenders are cheap there - add shipping and import tax and they are not such a good deal for those of us outside the US.
Sounds like it's a pretty good price if it's $900 less than the shop price.
Have you played it? If you like it, I'd go for it.
Nah, I'm keeping the Toro, it's too cool to sellhotrodperlmutter wrote:the 62RI's come with the optional 5 way switch to replace it with. and if it's american, i doubt the retail is $1600. surf green fucking rules. if you have that kind of jack, i'd get it. you won't find another one like it anytime soon.blacktaxi wrote:Yeah, I've checked the prices in USA stores online, but it's different here in Ukraine - everything is like $250 moreWell I guess you're right. So I went and tryed out this strat. Basically, I didn't really like it. Somehow it wasn't even as chimey as my mustang, and "the chime" is what I'm after. The dude also had a bigsby tele with maple neck, and damn it was chimey.

Honestly i love the reissues look and sound, but i find them hard to play and maintain compared to the modern models. I opted for an american dlx strat in sunburst w/mint guard. It still looks very vintage but plays better than the reissues in my opinion, thanks to the noiseless pickups, 9.5 radius and locking tuners.
They're nice guitars, one of the closest things to a vintage Fender you can just go out and buy alongside every other strat/tele at the shop IMO. At times you'll find a vintage Fender not as nice as an AV.
Set-up is important from guitar-to-guitar, the day I bought my AV '57 I tried a '62 which I thought I'd prefer and it was awful, even compared to a Mexican Classic 60s strat in there, it was just in dire shape at the time. I'd had trouble deciding between '57 and '62 and the particular '62 they had in that day put me off at the crucial moment.
