pick preference?

Post by borrowedworld »

just interested, since it seems like there are people who seem to have very unique playing styles on this board, and it's really ignored by a lot of players as to how using different types can effect your playing. personally, i've played with the .60 orange tortex picks, but have been thinking about switching to comparable Snarling Dogs brain picks. what about you?

I like my picks like I like my women: hot and black.

I vary between the green nylon Dunlops and the purple tortex ones. I can't remember how thick either of those are.

I also use dunlop tortex 1.0 mm blue shortscale dot org picks. I'm not sure how I'm getting along with them though. I think I like picks made of a softer kind of plastic.

also, I don't know if anyone else is like this but I really hate pointy picks. I have to sand the point off of all the picks I use or it annoys the hell out of me.

If you like the dunlop tortex orange check out the other .60mm picks on offer. Being made of a different material can make them feel a lot different. Having noticed I play better with a .60mm but still wanting a bit more diversity at times I've checked out:

Dunlops "the wedge" .60mm tortex, feels stiffer than the all-orange but not too heavy
Ultex .60mm, more flexible but not quite a 'thin'
I use all 3 for different applications.

If a different look is all you're after, everyone makes a version of the orange tortex picks. I got some Jackson Black Bomb .60mm awhile ago just for fun, they're all the same price for a pack anyway. That little dude was speaking to me more than the Tortise at the time.

Plus on my mojo pie chart I've worked out that a good 26.333333% of good tone is, in fact, in the pick.

Brain picks .60

I used to use those grey nylon dunlops before that, switched to the brain picks about 2 years ago.

I can't use stiff picks they don't like my style.
