P90 Les Pauls

Post by Mages »

a lot of people may know about the early goldtop les paul:
Image

and les paul custom:
Image

but here are some others. here's a '77 Les Paul Pro Deluxe:

Image

I'm pretty sure this was the main guitar played by Nasty Suicide with Hanoi Rocks. Some pretty cool features on it; P90s, brass nut, volute, and a shielding cage around the electronics. http://www.protohost.com/gibson_les_paul_pro.htm

sometimes this guitar is referred to as a reissue and there was the limited epiphone '56 reissue a couple years ago that was similar. I think there has been Gibson Historic reissues as well. but the weird thing is I have never seen a picture of an original '56 in this finish.

also..... check out the Les Paul Studio Gem Series:

I have seen them anywhere from about 800-1200 used locally. But I only see them pop up once or twice per year. A red on I believe was up on Craigslist here a week or two ago for 1100 I think and it was in perfect condition.

You could get an Agile as an alternative? They have a heap of Les Pauls that come with P90s.

You are right. I never saw an original '57 or '58 Blacktop with humbuckers either, just Custom Shop reissues. I don't think Gibson ever made any back in the 50's. Maybe a special order, but I never saw a photo of one.

Sam Ash had some Blacktop '58 reissues made by the Custom Shop around 2000. The show up on ebay once in awhile. I was watching this one on Ebay about 4 or 5 years ago but it sold for about $2000 I think which was ouht of my price range.

Argh. '57 Reissues just kill me. I can't think of what I wouldn't give up for one.

That Custom's real cool, too. That's actually the first custom I've seen with a burst that I like.

But yeah, real great '57. I'm truly jealous. I don't like humbuckers at all, really--but a '57 RI is something I would make room for in half a second.

I like it too. It's like a Gretsch Duo-Jet

I can't afford them either. Here is a 1958 Duo-Jet. What is cool about the original ones is that the finish on the top is not lacquer like the reissues. It is some kind of plastic like they used for making the covering on drums.I for get wat it is called

Oh wow.. that is perfect.

I dont know if its just attention to detail, or a reflection, but the
place where neck joins the body, the white plastic overlay.
If it is so then thats just sweet..

Drum plastic, interesting, will search on it..
Gretsch have one of the most eye appealing desings.. (the cadillac green hollow bodies,m)
