it's been in at least two threads before now. it's interesting in a completely pointless kind of way.

Really. I am surprised I have not seen it. I have seen one with a Jaguar instead of Jazzmaster.

The mid 60s stuff looks fantastic, you can still get stuff like it I think, but it's mighty expensive compared to the modern stuff. If you can't get it you can definitely get stuff that looks close to it. It's expensive, but for that money you expect to get stuff that looks good rather than that nonsense.

nah, there was a big thread about it on o****t about. they ordered tort samples from all the pickguard makers. no one makes tort like the vintage stuff anymore. that stuff on the guitar above is the celluloid stuff that the fender custom shop always uses. even though it's celluloid it's no where near the original stuff. the best looking stuff is whatever WD Music uses. it looks pretty good but still not quite like the vintage stuff.
EDIT: found it:

WD is where I got the Red Tort for my Duo-Sonic from, it's nice.
Obviously nothing is like the old stuff unfortunately.

Given that anyone browsing Shortscale and Offset see people making custom stuff all the time of amazining quality that price is just fucking snakoil for the gullible.

You would think that with the massive amounts of technology and science at our disposal that SOMEONE could hash together an accurate tortoise shell pickguard that actually looks like the good 60s fender tort. I'd happily pay an extra 20% for an accurate representation of a good thing.

I think you're over estimating how many people really care about this. We are a massively (not massive) niche market.
For example, a few more people care about Stratocasters and Cancer. So those things are getting the big bucks.

I'm all for fighting for the cure but for $10k let's see if we can get 40% of the guitars surface area looking proper

Looking for logic in the Fender Custom Shop is like looking for a girl with her dignity intact after 8pm on a Friday night in Bracknell.

I just happened across this
It's only $20 when a lot of pickguards for a Jazz Bass are more like $35-40, but damn. What were they thinking?
