Post by lorez »

After the Smiths Challenge thread i was digging around to see what Johnny Marr was using. I found his site and stumbled across some amazing looking guitars:

Finally, a guitar forum that widely accepts Johnny Marr. I think I made a good decision by joining. (Hooray, first post.)

I just saw Johnny Marr play with The Cribs a month ago. I stood about two feet away from him and it was quite the experience. If you're in the USA, I recommend you head out and see the band, if only for the Marr.

Not so much diss as much as disregard.

One of the most important British guitarists of the 80's. I think it's great that he's in the Cribs now too.

Marr is king.... sometimes I think he comes across as a bit up himself but then I think, well he has every right to be. he puts the words into action. Great site that... awesome.

Glad to see there's so much Marr love on here! It makes almost too much sense, though.

On my side of the Atlantic, little people know of Johnny Marr, so it's nice and refreshing to know people enjoy his playing as much as I do.

Here's a really great blog that features pictures, articles and great sheet music for most of Marr's Smith era guitar playing.

I got to see him with Modest Mouse on their We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank tour. It was a pretty small venue to so that was awesome. From what I remember, it seemed like he played his white jazzmaster exclusively for that show. I can't quiet remember though.

I'm not sure about a Jazzmaster, but the entire concert he played his white Jaguar, with the exception of one song, I think.

indeed you might be correct but i swear it was a JM from my memory.

such as Image

or Image
if you will.

but im not saying you still could be 100% correct. i am in no way positive on this one.

epescially cause i was 10x more excited about the MM part and geeking out at isaac
and 5x more upset that eric judy wasnt there... soo Marr's guitar might have gotten lost in the haze

Then you're probably right. I don't doubt that he has both, but as far as I know, with The Cribs, he's only been playing his Jaguars.

Either way, he sounds and plays great.

I saw with the Cribs in November (maybe October) last year and it was the Jag that he used for the whole set.

It was an awesome gig!

I was checking out some Cribs videos and it looks like he removed the selector switches on the bottom jaguar control plate for a telecaster switch, which makes sense for performances.

He calls it a "Jagmaster" on his site, but it's actually a jazzmaster with jaguar wiring and filtertrons. I've never seen him play it live, but it looks pretty.
