is that finish original? i've never seen a black one with a white pickguard (i suppose the pickguard could have been changed). also, amp knobs? shouldn't it have either bronco knobs or strat knobs?

The pickguard might be original. The serial number on the headstock is a 76XXXXX, which were a transition serial number between the early '76s which had the number on the neck plate and the later '76s which had headstock serial numbers that started with S6XXXXXX. There were several cosmetic changes during 1976 (ash bodies, strat knobs instead of jag knobs on the shortscales, pickguards became black instead of white, new finish colours, etc.) and all the fenders I've seen with the S6 numbers tended to have a mix of of both the older and newer parts. Fender was known for using up all the old parts when making the transitions to new and different parts, to avoid waste. I don't think the Broncos ever came with the amp knobs, though.

I was reading a book and it showed different ways to wrap different style tuners and this was one way for Kluson style... Dan Earlwine said the guy was a scientist, so it must be better

that doesn't make sense. weren't they originally called "safe-t-posts" or something? that's so you don't get jabbed by the string ends if you wind them up correctly.

i don't think that finish is og, for a few reasons, correct me if im wrong, but i think by 76 all the bodies were painted in poly, and there is def some spiral cord rash on the back of that thing.
i think it may be more of a parts bronco than they are leading to believe, either way, its still a good price.
even if you can fit a house in that janky ass neck pocket.

whatever poly finish fender was using in the '70s is not anywhere close to what they use today. when i stripped my old bronco, the black came off very easily with citristrip. whereas on newer fenders, i usually spend several days with the most hateful of epoxy removers to get that stuff off.

that thing is wonderful, but i highly doubt it being 100% original (as they state), too.

dang why do guitars-in-case pics look SO hot!!!??? (even if the case is ugly-ass itself!)

Pat.

ps: was the auction pulled?

Even if it isn't 100% original, it still look like an absolute beauty!

The black of the sunburst of my '73 Strat comes off with nail polish remover. (It's only a tiny spot.)
