DOH!! I totally missed the upside down part.....I just hit the spot under the pickguard and got instant cracking. I'll do the rest of the body right now and if the sun is still out, snap a few more pics.

Man that was wierd, I blasted the front with canned air (upside down this time) and I could hear the paint cracking. I got worried for a second, but after the stuff dried it was cool as shit. I went through a whole 10oz can doing just the front, so I've now got it in the freezer and turned up the heat in the house to see what happens when I take it out. If it doesn't do anything I'll pick up another can of air tomorrow.
I snapped a couple more pictures, but the sun is down so it's kind of hard to see any detail.
I'm shooting for a more drastic effect than this though:

Nah, the second you start accepting money for something you find enjoyable, it becomes work.
Plus, painting is such a fickle thing and to do what a 'customers' expectations are might not be exactly what the final product is. Before I started painting Pat's guitar I kind of set him up for the fact that the body won't be a dead on match to the headstock and I'm limited by the colors reranch provide. Even with that in mind, what I find acceptable for an over all look isn't what everyone is looking for. This guitar has a sand through on the upper horn, Pat is cool enough to not care, but if I were charging someone chances are I would be starting all over and respraying it at my cost. That alone would make the turn around time twice as long. I've seen how well long turn around times bode with board members here and I don't want the headache.
With all that said, I've got no problem opening myself up to some of Shortscale's members I've had positive interactions with, who want me to paint their guitar. The nice thing is it can be under the 'condition' that I'm doing a favor and any expectations would reflect that. There couldn't be any buyers remorse. The way I see it is Pat will get his body back and from the way his posts sound he is very happy with what he sees, but if not he's not out much. Well actually to date with paint, cans of air and random materials it's around $130, I guess that's no chump change. But the thing is there's nothing that can't be reversed from the time he sent it to me and we can both walk away knowing I tried to the best of my abilities. If he were paying for more than just materials I would be responsible for satisfaction and I've got way too many responsibilities in life as it is

Now who wants a seafoam green and daphne blue competition?

Great work, RVB. What kind of canned air is it? I may have to try that on something. I don't hope for sand-throughs, but I all but welcome them if they happen. It ain't new.

you can use pretty much any brand of compressed air (as the ones to clean computer keyboards, etc.) like dust-off, etc.
hold it UPSIDE DOWN and spray it on the guitar when the clearcoat/finish has recently dried (it also works on older guitars, but it's not as spectacular as when the coat is freshly dried), you'll hear the crackling and all that.
careful with yer fingers, or anything in the spray way... you might get freezer burns etc. OUCH!

DGNR8, I got the the cans of air at Radio Shack and like Pat said it's the stuff used to blow dirt out of electronics. A 10oz can is 10 bucks and it empties out in about 5 seconds, so it's not the cheapest thing in the world to do. After I drained the first can I left it in the freezer for a few hours and nothing happened, then I left it in there overnight and still nothing. It seems to me that despite the cost, canned air is the best way to go. Also I waited till the paint was fully cured and it had been sanded and buffed. I have a feeling that if it had been done prior to sanding I would have sanded out all the fine little cracks and polishing compound would get gummed up in the big ones.

Pat, I went to the Post Office to send it back to you this morning, but apparently there is some sort of national holiday today and they were closed. It just figures that on a day I'm regularly scheduled to be off work it would have to fall on a holiday. I have it all boxed up and will do my best to get it sent out this week. I leave for work so early in the morning that the PO by my house isn't open yet and I get home so late that they'er already closed, but I think there's one not too far from my work so I'll swing by there if I get a chance.

Pat, I went to the post office today and it's on it's way. Like I said in the pm, yer address doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I've never sent anything 'international' before. I wrote out yer addy exactly like it was written when you sent it to me, but when it came to the customs form I couldn't really make too much sense of it. The guy at the post office assured me it will get there though.
And just as a point of fact to how stubborn I am, when I walked in and got in line I saw forms to make labels for packages, so I filled one out. Turns out it was for express shipping and instead of dealing with the hassle of filling out a new form, that's how I shipped it. It cost A LOT considering what it is, so let me know what you spent sending it to me and I'll make up the difference. It should be there in 3 days
