Motorik II

Post by James »

A lot of you will remember the guitar othomas bought from the OSG member who built it (link to thread on shortscale)

Image

The same guy has started planning a second version (link to thread on offset).

It's early days yet but it will definitely be an interesting thread. Worth havng the occasional glance at at the least.

i find the comments over there to be more self serving to their person writing them then helpful on the project itself.

or people bitching about how its not period correct this or that, cloth wire blah blah..

but maybe thats just how i read into it..
although this dudes projects are stellar.

I've signed up on there but have never posted. Hate the layout and people there seemed too nice. Can't you get banned for swearing?

I only ever use the Jaguar/Jazzmaster dressing room app.

That seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Why not go there and enjoy the better aspects of it like this sort of project?

Nice guitar... :P Looks like the second version could be just as nice if not better. Ben did say he was planning to build another...

His attention to detail is unreal... and a real nice stand up guy. I do prefer the jag upper plate version.

Looks like a slim Jag-Stang to me.

I cant be bothered with OSG anymore, topically the knowledge sections remind me of js.com about 6 years ago but without the humor and more snobbery. As for a hang out theres only a dozen or so i like there.

I'm a member of Offset. I go there to look at the project section, they have some crazy skills over there, especially that one guy 'Andrewdoeshair'.

Agreed - he makes beautiful guitars. The Motorik is the best project guitar I've ever seen.

I love the first Motorik. I like this one a little bit less, because the guard looks too Mustangy, but I'm still looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Not sure of the ethics of hijacking my own stalker thread...thanks for the words!

This one will be 24" scale, and I'm not bothering with the starcaster headstock this time around. For some reason the binding on the neck doesn't show up on my drawing. Jag pickups, mainly because they're the best ones I have in my bits box at the moment. I've already sold a load of old hardware to help fund it, just need to get rid of an old duoII body and a 90s jap jag neck to fund the paint. If I can't shift the neck it'll probably end up on this...

For those of you alergic to offset, these are the options at the moment:

...and with the original MOTORIK guard...

then Paul stereordinary took the drawing and tweaked it a bit

I'm leaning towards the mustang guard version, but with a Jag control plate, though the last one's ok, too.

The one with the Jaguar top control plate is by far my favourite.
However, the Mustang version looks good as well.

that looks really awesome, my only meh is for the slanted jag pups. they're too long to be slanted. i think you should have the neck straight, and the bridge slanted, or both straight. looks too mustang-y with the pups slanted.

my .02

fucking awesome either way. always classy work, WOF!
